What is a villa?
Historically known as a ‘Roman Villa’, the term ‘villa’ dates back to the Roman Empire when a villa was an estate built by the Romans. It would have comprised of a large central building surrounded by outbuildings, farmland and beautiful gardens.
This evolved through the Middle Ages and into the early modern period when the term became diluted to mean any decent-sized detached home with a private garden near a city or town.
