The city of Exeter is vibrant and welcoming, with its remarkable cathedral, big brand and independent shops and plethora of eateries. Head to the quay for a tranquil lunch away from the centre or hire a canoe and glide along the scenic canal.

On Devon’s south coast, Torbay is a hub for seaside holidays and the place you’ll find shopping, piers, arcades and water sports. To the north, Teignmouth and Dawlish are lovely spots for a family trip to the seaside, as is Exmouth, just across the river. Topsham, Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth are lovely towns where you’ll find fantastic eateries and a charming, olde-worlde atmosphere.
In the South Hams, Dartmouth is a delightfully picturesque riverside town, with fudge and pasty shops, independent boutiques, art galleries, cafés and restaurants aplenty. Beautiful Salcombe has long been a hit with visitors; boats bob in the mouth of the estuary and stunning views and sailing tempt you to stay longer.
The beaches of Bantham and Bigbury are sandy and scenic, while further along the coast to the West, Mothecombe, Noss Mayo and Bovisand are prime walking territory with routes combining both coast and countryside.
The city of Plymouth with its glorious Hoe, trendy Barbican and bustling centre is a great place for a daytrip shopping and sightseeing.
