The ancient town of Winchelsea (3 miles) is rich in history and surrounded by monuments and sites of significant medieval importance. Once a Saxon fishing port, this picturesque town boasts a pretty shingle beach with glorious views across the English Channel and beyond. The winding cobbled pavements of Rye (6 miles) coupled with galleries, boutiques and high-end restaurants are what makes this picture-postcard town so special and worth visiting. Steeped in maritime history, its narrow streets are lined with medieval pubs and shop fronts where you can spend a whole day just browsing. Hastings (7.5 miles) is a popular seaside resort, famously given its name due to the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Overlooked by the ruins of the Hastings Castle, the town has a great selection of shops and eateries to peruse. Or take a stroll along the 3 miles of glorious seafront, arm in arm with the sand beneath your toes.

We had a girls weekend and it's was great from beginning to end. The cottage is lovely and the owners provide everything you need to kick start your holiday. The hot tub was a great addition. We went to the Queens Head Inn pub which was lovely and only 25 minute walk.

We had a wonderful stay with family. The cottage is beautiful and has everything you could need. We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub looking across the garden and taking in the views. We ventured to nearby Rye, Camber sands and Dungeness whilst we were there - all great places to visit! We plan to return!

Five ladies enjoyed a great weekend at Scrag Oak. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and we all thought the beds, pillows and duvet were extremely comfortable. We loved the hot tub and the alpacas in the adjacent field. We enjoyed walks along the beach at Hastings, Pett Level and Fairlight Cove and also visited Dungeness and Rye. An old property that was adequate for a 6 week old, 2 year old & 6 adults. Plenty of room, a lovely garden & a great area once you get used to the very narrow lane leading up to Scrag Oak. The Aga is at the heart of the kitchen as the house will be cold when the temperature drops.

We had a lovely holiday at Scrag Oak Farm. We were fortunate to have amazing weather and spent most of the time in the beautiful garden. All the bedrooms are a good size. The kitchen was really well stocked and it was useful to have a cooker as well as Aga. We really hope to return very soon
