This rural Welsh retreat is a wonderful option for a memorable group holiday in the rolling hills of the Brecon Beacons. With ample facilities including a hot tub, BBQ and games room, this converted farmhouse has everything you need for relaxing with friends and loved ones. There’s room for up to eight guests over four bedrooms, so it’s ideal for an extended family trip or two families holidaying together. Two dogs are also welcome to come and join in the holiday fun. The property is in a rural spot 5 miles from Hay-on-Wye, a market town known for its annual literary festival. It’s the perfect springboard for discovering the Black Mountains and the gorgeous Wye Valley.

On arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed with some homemade produce you can enjoy with other party members. The spacious open-plan living area has an original farmhouse chimney stack in the centre and plenty of windows letting the light in. This space has lots of comfy seating and is ideal for relaxing all together, perhaps watching a film on the Smart TV or playing the Nintendo Wii. The large wooden table has space for all eight guests – great for tucking into delicious meals that you’ve prepared in the country kitchen which is equipped with a range-style electric oven. A breakfast island with stalls is a lovely spot for relaxed breakfasts or morning coffees as group members slowly get ready for the day ahead. All the bedrooms, two super-king-size, one king-size with en-suite shower room and one double room, are on the first floor. There’s a family bathroom plus a separate downstairs WC, so plenty of room for you all to enjoy the space comfortably. Outside the property you can chill out on the large patio, enjoying leisurely BBQs or resting your limbs in the hot tub after action-packed days out. You’ll also have use of a fully enclosed field – perfect for pets and children – with a seating area plus a fire pit for staying warm. The games room is equipped with a pool table and table tennis where you can challenge each other to friendly matches during your trip, and store equipment like bikes if you need to.

In Hay-on-Wye, you can wander around independent boutique shops and bookshops and enjoy morning coffee in a cafe, or perhaps a quiet drink in a welcoming pub. This pretty town is on the edge of the Brecon Beacon National Park, with walking being the most obvious pastime for making the most of the local scenery. You may choose to trek up to Gospel Pass (10.5 miles) or enjoy an afternoon of cycling, pony trekking, canoeing or fishing with your fellow guests.

We had a wonderful stay at Pentre Mawr. Meryl was on hand to answer any questions and provided clear instructions for gaining access, leaving the property etc. The accommodation is stunning, with plenty of space for all of us. Thank you so much, we would highly recommend.
