Perfect for families who want the peace and quiet of the countryside but with many amenities within a short walk. Spend your days lazing in the garden or relaxing by the fire with good company.

Within 500 metres of the centre of Bakewell, this former private boarding house sleeps eight people across four bedrooms. Set on the edge of the Peak District National Park and surrounded by glorious and dramatic countryside, this wonderfully decorated two-storey house offers inviting dining areas, private parking for six cars and six bathrooms, one of which houses a large copper bath that overlooks the picturesque, enclosed garden.

The kitchen/diner is a place to prepare and enjoy hearty breakfasts, brunches and lunches. For grander dinners, and even a spot of supper, the welcoming dining room opposite will set the mood perfectly. Many a film will be watched, glasses refilled, and sofa snuggles sought in the lounge, which benefits from a dual-aspect wood burner and plenty of natural light pouring in through bi-fold doors which beg to be thrown open in summer. A handy utility room sits nearby, as does a shower room, a separate bathroom and two king-size bedrooms, both with en-suite shower rooms. Upstairs, a twin bedroom sits close to another family bathroom – this one with his and hers sinks and a large copper bath overlooking the garden through switchable privacy glass. A few short steps on the first floor lead to a super-king-size bedroom enjoying views over Bakewell and the surrounding countryside. The patio end of the sprawling garden, surrounded by mature trees, is perfect for al fresco dining, and there’s plenty of room for games on the lawn around, too.

Bakewell (within 500 metres) is home to an attractive range of quaint shops, galleries, tearooms and centuries-old pubs and restaurants. Walkers and cyclists should make a beeline for the Monsal Trail, a former railway line which runs 8.5 miles between Bakewell and Blackwell Mill, in Chee Dale. Monsal is just one of many routes hikers and climbers can find within 10 miles. It’s possible to reach the outstanding Chatsworth Estate (3.5 miles) or Haddon Hall (3 miles) on foot but given their charming grounds and farm shops brimming with local favourites, a trip in the car is understandable. For something more relaxing, head to the banks of the River Wye for fly fishing, just 3 miles away.

We stayed at this house for a week with 2 adults, 2 children and a small dog. The house is beautiful and all the rooms were spotlessly clean. A fabulous and luxurious property. We stayed with our children and two sets of grandparents and was plenty of room for us all with great facilities in the house. The owners even contacted us to check everything was ok during our stay. Location is only a few minutes walk into the town. Highly recommend.
