Get away from it all in this blissfully secluded rural spot. This delightful thatched cottage offers impressive accommodation for large family celebrations and group getaways, with six bedrooms sleeping up to 13 guests. You’ll get a warm welcome when you arrive – and the possibility of freshly baked scones are just the ticket if you’ve had a long, tiring journey! You’re well placed for exploring the pretty villages and beautiful countryside found in the heart of Devon, not least the sprawling Dartmoor National Park, around 11 miles away. After days out traversing the great outdoors, enjoy a soak in the private hot tub with a glass of wine while the little ones have fun on the slide and climbing frame.

The property has been beautifully furnished but retains some of its original features including exposed oak beams and stonework, and there are steps throughout. Each room has individual style, creating a comfortable home from home for a special holiday. The medieval entrance hall provides a grand welcome and there are two comfortable lounges, each with a TV/DVD and wood burner. In addition, there’s a snug with PlayStation, books and games that will keep the children occupied for hours. The large farmhouse kitchen, which is well-equipped with a Rayburn and range cooker, is a lovely spot for family meals shared round the large dining table. There are six cosy bedrooms – all with TVs – including a double room on the ground floor that is ideal for elderly guests. There are also five bathrooms, including two en-suites, so you all get your own space when you need it. Outside, enjoy a meal on the patio on a balmy summer’s evening surrounded by your loved ones.

The property is 2 miles from the village of Iddesleigh, where author Michael Morpurgo was inspired to write the book War Horse. The market town of Great Torrington (13 miles) is home to Dartington Crystal and RHS Rosemoor, a delight whatever the season, with inspiring plant displays and natural play areas. Elsewhere, Okehampton (11 miles) features an ancient Norman castle and is the gateway to Dartmoor – perfect for blowing away a few cobwebs with walks among the tors. If the kids are looking for thrills and spills, head to The Big Sheep (22 miles). This was the perfect place for 9 adults and two toddlers and a 5 week old baby. Everyone was so happy with the accommodation and the facilities were brilliant. We stayed at the cottage in April as a large family (6 adults and 4 children) and we had an amazing time! The cottage is well equipped and absolutely huge, we barely saw/heard our children all weekend! This was our second stay here. The welcome gifts were much appreciated as we were all in need of a cuppa or cider on arrival.
