Rylstone may be a tiny village nestled at the foot of the Yorkshire Dales, but its reputation precedes it thanks to its glittering significance as the inspiration behind Wordsworth’s famous poem ‘The White Doe of Rylstone’. Not only this, but some of its residents are the original Calendar Girls, the motivation for the well-known film. The Grade II-listed church, stone obelisk and historic cross are worth exploring for a step back in time, and there are lots of glorious scenic walks across the fells available from your front doorstep.

The historic town of Skipton (4.5 miles) is also close by and offers a host of other attractions including its very own castle. There are lots of options to eat here as well as independent shops making it a great option for a full day out. Other nearby attractions include the Kilnsey Trout Farm and horse riding at Coniston, Malham.

It's a true walker's paradise here but if you're more of a roamer than a rambler, try a stroll around the grounds of nearby Bolton Abbey (9 miles). These gorgeous ruins provide the backdrop to a particularly beautiful part of the Dales and are well worth a visit. There are a host of other attractions all within easy reach including Malham Cove and Malham Tarn (both within 10.5 miles).

Settle (19 miles) is a well-loved and bustling market town home to lots of lovely cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops. There's also a thriving market held in the town every Tuesday - the perfect place to pick up everything from flowers to dinner that night. If real ale is your thing, there are three fantastic real ale pubs set around the marketplace, so you can choose which one to try each evening! Just outside of town, you can hop on the Settle to Carlisle railway, one of the most scenic routes in the UK.

Crossing into the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Pateley Bridge (15 miles) is a charming little market town, very typical of this area of Yorkshire. The main street is peppered with cafes, restaurants, local stores, quality butchers and a wine shop; everything you need to stock up for your stay. You'll also find the self-proclaimed 'Oldest Sweet Shop in England' here dating back to the early 1800s. From here, there are plenty of local attractions and stunning natural sights within easy driving distance including the fabulous Brimham Rocks (19 miles).

This is a lovely, property with a lot of space. The beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms nice. Its a pity some locally sourced toiletries werent showcased. It is situated right on a constantly busy road- if youre a light sleeper, or at all concerned about noise then its not great. The rear patio is pleasant and gets sun all day. The barn is a lovely conversion with comfy beds and well equipped. Good location for the dales. It is however right on a very busy noisy road which kept us awake in the early hours. Also as a barn it is quite dark and we had to have the lights on the whole time. The welcome pack was disappointing and had mouldy bread, which was replaced. Totally stunning barn conversion. It was perfect for our family, 7 adult who had plenty of space to spread out and not be on top of one another. The location is perfect for local walks and for trips further into the dales. Dont miss a meal at the Devonshire in Cracoe the food is delicious. Dont hesitate to book this place its well worth it.
