A peaceful rural county in the heart of England, Northamptonshire is peppered with chocolate-box villages, glorious stately homes and a landscape criss-crossed with walking trails and waterways.
The town of Northampton is attractive and welcoming, with five beautiful churches and a plethora of shops, museums and attractions, including the Charles Rennie Mackintosh House and Galleries.
The county’s stately homes and gardens are one of its main draws. Great for families, couples and inter-generational groups alike, each one is impressive, elegant and opulent with much to explore and enjoy. Some of the most impressive are Althorp (Princess Diana’s former home), Holdenby House, Deene Park House and Boughton House to name but a handful.
Racing enthusiasts will certainly be familiar with the name Silverstone, home to the Silverstone Circuit, of Formula One British Grand Prix fame. Visitors can book in for a driving experience, or time your stay with one of the popular events throughout the year.
If you’re travelling with children, Northamptonshire has a range of great attractions to keep everyone in the family amused. Wicksteed Park is bursting with rides and activities, The Canal Museum has fascinating displays and a ‘living canal’ and Rockingham Castle is fun to explore. Outside of Northamptonshire, but close enough for a day out are Alton Towers, Cotswold Wildlife Park, Gullivers land, Whipsnade Wild Animal Park and Woburn Safari Park.
