This luxurious property is set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent and is surrounded by stunning wooded hills and cliffs. Within walking distance there is an abundance of attractions such as Gulliver's Kingdom, the Peak District Mining Museum, aquarium and arcades. Visitors can take a ride on the Heights of Abraham cable car and take in the incredible views in style, whilst the more active are catered for with plentiful walking around the Derwent Valley. Matlock Bath also offers a selection of quality pubs, shops and coffee shops.

Matlock Bath lies just a short drive from the historic village of Cromford, famous for its connections with Sir Richard Arkwright and the birthplace of the industrial revolution. The mills and canal are a world heritage site. The splendid Chatsworth House is close by, as well as rock climbing and cycling opportunities at Carsington Water and the High Peak, Monsal and Tissington Cycle Trails.

After heading inside through the stone porch and double doors into the unique detached Georgian Grade ll listed former hotel you’ll be in the entrance hall. With its original parquet flooring and ornate cast iron radiator you’ll get the sense of elegance you would expect from this type of property, which has been wonderfully renovated to retain its original features, but also has a contemporary feel with its designer decor.

Bluetooth/USB/DAB/CD music system. The kitchen island is a great social space where everyone can congregate. Opposite the kitchen you can celebrate that special occasion in the impressive dining room (Byron Room) with ample seating for all guests and stunning views of Riber Castle, the limestone cliffs, the River Derwent and down to the village below. The property has had numerous distinguished people cross its threshold, including Lord Byron, who was so moved by his visit to The Temple that he was inspired to etch a poem on the dining room window. Queen Victoria visited when a young princess and signed the same pane. Next to this room is the cosy snug with comfy seating and a Smart TV/DVD. Adjoining the kitchen is the exquisite lounge bar with dishwasher, bottle fridge and under counter sink ideal for the perfect stay. Linking into this room is the stunning main lounge with seating for everyone and with a wall of glass windows providing panoramic views of the cliffs and river below and really give this room the Wow factor! Moving into the north wing you’ll find bedrooms 1-4 with stunning features throughout. Bedrooms 1 and 2 both have king-size zip-and-link beds, bedroom 3 has a super-king-size bed and bedroom 4 is a king-size. All four bedrooms have TVs and luxury en-suite shower rooms with massage jet showers and WC.

Take in the delightful views of the two acres of sandstone walled garden through the original Venetian window as you make your way up the bespoke Georgian staircase to the second floor.

Here you will be met with even more character with impressive ornate radiators and fireplaces. On the landing is a utility room with two commercial tumble dryers and plenty of space to hang your clothes.

To the second-floor north wing you’ll find charming bedrooms 5-9, all with stunning views and oozing character. These consist of bedroom 5 that has a king size bed. The Temple From outside it looks impressive, the space is amazing, the ground floor pub area is great if not a little chilly, the children and adults alike enjoyed the pool/ air hockey table, pub vibes are excellent. Kitchen space, utensils/ crockery etc Fantastic, as was the dining room. Lounge area had amazing views with space for all 30 peRead moreople, some of the seating/sofas were well used, so I suggest a review to possibly replace the worst ones, soft cushions and throws are needed for a cosy feel. Great house for a big family party pub onsite was a real bonus all the bedrooms were of a high standard and our only bug bear was it was very cold especially in the pub and in the big lounge it could do with some lovely warm throws for the leather seats especially at this Time of year but would stay again beautiful part of the country !!!!

We enjoyed a long weekend with extended family and friends just before Christmas. Booking and access arrangements were all very smooth. The house itself was amazing - so spacious with plenty of room for everyone to be together, or indeed not according to preference! The hot tubs were super hot, and plenty of space in kitchen for food and drinks. WeRead more used local company Zest to cater for one evening meal, and they were excellent. Incredible location and fantastic space in this converted hotel and pub. I can truly recommend it as a fabulous venue for a family get together which has ample space for 30+ adults. The pub on the ground floor was a great party space with karaoke, pool etc. the lounge area is huge with plenty of space for relaxation well as cosy areas to relax quieRead moretly. A fantastic stay for 29 on a hen do! Location was fantastic, lots of restaurants and activities near by were great! Fish and chips, Indian and carvery were delicious and staff were lovely and very accommodating especially for a last minute fish and chip order. The hotel was clean and very well equipped. An interesting house in Matlock Bath. All bedrooms are ensuite which is a plus. The lounge on the first floor is a lovely space leading out to the small garden and the hot tubs. Parking is great. Pleasant walk down to the town where you have a choice of seven or eight fish and chip shops. People are very friendly.

Overall needs a good deep clean and refreshing in some places , musty smells in several rooms The bar next to the kitchen was very dirty and shelves , glasses etc hadn't been cleaned for a long time Also the rubbish bin outside was full when we arrived Disappointing for the amount we paid to stay but location was good

We stayed at The Temple for the second time 21st-25th April 2025. We were a group of 3 families, 5 adults and 11 children. Everyone had the best time. The house is lovely and surrounded by beautiful views. It has everything you need. A short walk away is Gulliver's kingdom, a play park and lots of places for food and ice cream! The Temple has an air of faded grandeur about it. It is a great place for large gatherings and offers plenty of space. It is warm and comfortable but some of the equipment could do with attention. Dishwashers didn't clean properly and one oven wouldn't ignite. Lighting is rather dismal. Cleaners turned up early on check out day - not ideal. Myself and 33 of my friends and family stayed for my hen weekend in January. The accommodation and location were just perfect. There was plenty of space to cater for everyone in the kitchen and dining room. The large lounge and pub space was perfect for entertainment in the evenings. I would definitely book again for a large family gathering.

We booked the Temple to celebrate my husbands 70th. There were 24 of us and we had a great weekend. The accommodation & communal areas were great for the number of guests. Having the pub was fun, especially with the karaoke machine. The decor is a bit tired but that did not detract from it being a great venue for a celebration.

Very fun place to stay. Could do with a refresh in some bedrooms and recommend bringing a pillow. The hot tubs, lounge and bar area were great. We enjoyed the place overall and its in a great location. 2mins walk to shops/ cafes/ pubs. Good value for money.

The house is beautiful. The views from the windows are stunning. The location is so great as its near the town and theres loads of walks/hikes you can go around there. The house did lack some cleanliness in certain areas and the water temperature was slightly hard to control in some of the showers but it was not much of a problem.
