This beautiful barn conversion is an ideal rural retreat for guests seeking a place to relax and unwind, surrounded by stunning woodland, lush pastures and miles of rolling hills.

There is little in life more lovely than waking in the country amidst friends or family, surrounded by the heavenly hills and moors of magical North Yorkshire. With the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within a stroll, the North York Moors within 10 miles and the seaside idyll of Scarborough within 30, this little world is your oyster. The cottage lies at the edge of the pretty village of Hovingham (2.5 miles), the pride of Ryedale, with its ancient ford, Georgian Hall, Saxon church and monthly market. The nearby village of Slingsby (1.5 miles) has a superb old pub. Majestic Castle Howard (4.5 miles) is one of Britain's finest stately homes, set in a thousand acres of sweeping parkland, replete with temples, lakes, statues and fountains, and home to the splendid Yorkshire Arboretum.

Approaching the converted barn, you'll immediately be immersed in the rural tranquillity of this exquisite setting. Fling off your coats and settle into your new piece of heaven, primed with the promise of wild new adventures. Gather in the lounge around the stone hearth and glowing wood burner to plan days ahead and reminisce. Stone, wood, leather, light, modern comfort and history blend to brilliant effect. The dining room feels both intimate and grand, contemporary and ancient, with its oak beams and table, wrought iron fittings, exposed stone and flag floor. With local produce and love, rustle up luscious meals in the alluring kitchen/diner, and spill out on balmy evenings into your private garden for sunset wine or a starlit hot tub. Melt those modern stresses in the shared gym and sauna or challenge competitive cohorts to an evening in the games room. Drift upstairs to the bedrooms you have claimed; you may favour a mezzanine room for extra intimacy, but all rooms have their own en-suites, beautiful beams and are full of charm. Dream in the steam of your freestanding bath or behind the wall of your sweet shower room.

Shared leisure facilities: mini gym, treatment room, sauna, relaxation area and games room with pool, table tennis, table football, Wii

The Hay Barn is set in the rolling Howardian Hills in the western reaches of the North York Moors. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1987, the lush pastures and woodlands of the western Moors play host to grand country houses, atmospheric ruins and handsome market towns.

The very pretty village of Hovingham is just a couple of miles' drive and features several pubs, a tea room and a local store. The beautiful market town of Helmsley is just ten miles away and is also well worth a visit. If you fancy a little pampering, you'll find a fantastic day spa here; the Verbena Spa. Perfect for a little indulgence!

You're also close to Castle Howard (4 miles), York (18 miles) and the North Yorkshire coast, so lots of choice for day trips.

If you're a fan of charming country pubs, the gorgeous Grapes at Slingsby is a very pleasant walk away.

Had a fantastic weekend. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you need to enjoy your time there. Well stocked hamper waiting for us on arrival was much appreciated. The hot tub was fabulous and although we didnt use the games room we were really impressed by it. Would definitely visit again with the grandchildren.

The Hay Barn has been converted and appointed to the very highest quality of accommodation and equipment. The external rectangular shape belies the fact that every bit of space has been has been used thoughtfully to create a very spacious living area. It's peaceful, with farm land all around but is also handily situated for visits to the Dales or tRead morehe moors. York is also only a 30 minute drive away. A waiting complimentary hamper of groceries, a bottle of prosecco and more, was very thoughtful. Hide

The house is maintained and cleaned to a very good standard. We had a party of 9 staying in the stables and found the property to be excellent. The playroom catered for children (and adults !) of multiple ages. The walks that are nearby are very peaceful and cater for all physical fitness abilities..... thank you !!

Everything has been thought of! Plenty of space in the cottage; love having our own bathrooms. Nice touches of smellies and dressing gowns to add that luxurious feel. Location is very good - out of the way, lovely walks from the cottage yet not too far to get into the Moors.
