Built on a steep hill and bounded by water on three sides, Polruan’s headland position once made it an important lookout point. Today the village’s views of the coast and across the harbour to Fowey continue to command attention from visitors who love both its peaceful location and proximity to all that makes this part of Cornwall’s south coast so special. There’s only one road into the village; heading past 8th-century St Saviour’s Ruin and it leads to a historic quay that evokes Polruan’s fishing and boatbuilding heritage. Cross the river to Fowey, a medieval market town that’s a maze of narrow lanes and home to Cornwall’s smallest castle, St Catherine’s, along with a selection of interesting shops, bars and restaurants to suit every taste. Alternatively, follow the South West Coast Path a mile east and you’ll reach Lantic Bay – crystal-clear water and a seldom-busy beach make this a great spot for paddling and picnics. There are more natural wonders at the renowned Eden Project (13 miles away). Or spend the day ferry hopping from Polruan to Fowey to Mevagissey to visit the aquarium, art galleries, pubs, shops, cafes, and restaurants.

Breathtaking views abound at this four-bedroom holiday home, where generous garden and interior spaces offer plenty of opportunities for friends and family to spend time together. The property’s been designed to take full advantage of its position on the seaward edge of the village, and nowhere is this more evident than the lounge, where a huge picture window floods the room with light and looks across the lawn to the coastline beyond. If you can tear yourself away from the view, a selection of sofas that are the setting for companionable evenings in front of the TV, while an ornamental stone fireplace and wood flooring complement the calm colour scheme. The traditional styling continues in the large kitchen/diner, where every cook’s needs are catered for and there’s space to work, chat and dine in comfort. Windows with garden views shed light on all that goes on here. A utility room and cloakroom complete the list of ground-floor essentials, and for those who’d prefer not to climb stairs, there’s a twin bedroom and beautifully-tiled shower room on this level too. On the first floor, an impressive family bathroom and separate W/C, serve the double and twin bedroom, while in the main bedroom, there’s a king-size bed and an en-suite shower room.

The garden here is laid to lawn and features a large patio area complete with outdoor furniture and a brick-built BBQ. Enjoy breakfast alfresco, sundowners at the end of a busy day, or simply watch for boats passing by… the view of the sea and coastline is totally unspoilt!

A wonderful family home with amazing views out to sea. A very special place for spending time with friends and family. Polruan is a great little harbour with a regular ferry to Fowey another special place.

We had the most brilliant week here and genuinely didnt want to go home. The cottage was fantastic really comfortable, well kept, and the views were honestly stunning. A nice relaxed base for the week. The bit that really stuck with us was the Blockhouse we ended up going back a few times over the week, the views out over the harbour and the sRead moreea are brilliant. Definitely one of the highlights for us. The 2 local pubs are great and well worth a visit. Also worth noting that the Russell Inn offers a takeaway food service for fish and chips and pizzas etc. Polruans a lovely little village quiet, plenty of character, and youve got the ferry over to Fowey right there if you fancy a change of scene or a visit to the beach. A week gave us plenty of time to just settle in and enjoy it properly rather than rushing around. Cant recommend this cottage enough well definitely be back. Hide

We loved our stay - the view was absolutely breathtaking, and the accommodation offered plenty of space, a secure garden, and convenient parking (suitable for one medium-to-large car or two smaller cars). Unfortunately, the bed in the main bedroom was extremely firm, to the point of being uncomfortable for us. Of course, comfort is subjective, but Read morein our opinion a high-quality soft mattress topper would make a big difference, while still allowing guests who prefer a firmer bed the option to remove it. I would recommend the property but with this as a caveat! Hide

The view from this holiday home is stunning - it really did make the stay. The living room is very comfortable and has that unbeatable view - as do two of the bedrooms upstairs - its amazing. The house was adequately equipped but bear in mind we arrived to no washing up liquid, cloths or basic things like milk - so bring those with you. If you haveRead more any aches or pains, the main bedroom also has a very very firm mattress so bare that in mind too. The location cant be faulted though - although its quite steep (you really need to be able to walk up and down hills with ease), you are right in the coast path and its a 10min stroll downhill to the foot ferry over to Fowey- just runs all day (and evening in the summer). Everyone locally was lovely and there is a well equipped store in Polruan for basic needs and a great takeaway fish and chip place too. Wed recommend walking along the coast path to Lantic Bay - its incredibly steep but breathtakingly beautiful and because its steep, quite quiet. Otherwise Ready Money Cove over in Fowey is great but it does get busy. Overall we really enjoyed our stay but bare those points above in mind if you book. Hide

Southcliff is without doubt one of the loveliest places we have stayed in the South West and we have been coming down to Cornwall and Devon for many many years. It is light and spacious and incredibly well equipped. The best thing about it though, is its location - walks from the door, right on the coast path and easy access to foot and car ferriesRead more for travelling further west. A short drive will even take you over to the north side of Cornwall to Padstow and the beaches of Bedruthan Steps and Crantock Bay where the early Summer Poppies are a must at West Pentire. Lantic bay is a short hike along the coast path and the steep decent is well worth the trouble. The Hall walk is wonderful taking in Polruan, Bodinic and Fowey via two ferry rides,(early in Spring the woddland paths are lined with wild garlic and primroses), and the longer walk over to Gribbin Head Daymark and Polkerris is beautiful with a view at every turn. The views from the house are simply sublime so wet or dry there is always something to gaze at from the windows or in the garden. Hide
