Surrounded by two acres of landscaped mature garden and with views over the Purbeck Hills, this holiday let is ideal for families with young explorers as well as those that prefer to appreciate the countryside from a comfy seat on the terrace. Set in a quiet village called East Holme, you’ll see that you’re in a perfect rural spot, yet still within easy driving distance of bustling towns like Wareham and Wool, both 3.5 miles away. Known as the gateway to Purbeck, Wareham boasts plenty of independent shops, restaurants and pubs as well as a museum, while quieter Wool features historic buildings such as the 14th-century Woolbridge Manor House, the location of Tess’ honeymoon in Tess of the D’Urbervilles.

Inside, stunning slate-tiled floors in the hall and kitchen diner give the property a splendid farmhouse-style feel. As you enter the cottage there’s a cloakroom with WC and pedestal basin, before heading round to the left to the kitchen. There’s everything you need in here for a hearty meal, including an oven, microwave, fridge and a dishwasher – although you might want to wash up at the sink just to take in the pretty views of the trees and shrubs through the window! Enjoy your home-cooked meal in front of the ornamental fireplace at the large wooden dining table that’s perfect for eight. Heading down a couple of steps into the neutrally-decorated lounge, you’ll find plenty of sofas to sink into in front of the wood burner, or throw open the patio doors and gaze out across the grounds. Relax in front of the Smart TV or even play some games on the Wii. Heading up to the first floor, a peaceful king-size bedroom with an en-suite awaits you; take a relaxing soak in the bath after a long day out walking. Kids will love the bunk and twin bedrooms that are accessed via three steps and sleep four comfortably, plus there are plenty of books to choose from for bedtime stories. Further along the landing is the main bathroom with WC and shower over the bath, while another double bedroom is situated at the end of the hall with soft, calming decor that promotes a great night’s sleep.

Outside, there are terraces on both sides of the house; one has patio furniture and a BBQ, making it the perfect evening spot for an al fresco bite to eat. The rest of the garden is ideal for outdoor games thanks to the large lawns, and thrill-seeking children (and adults!) can venture into the woodland and play on the swings and ropes.

This cottage was fantastic, very clean and comfortable, the beds were all very comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped. It was good to have a DVD player as we like to watch a movie in the evening. The garden was beautiful, lots of space and the view was fantastic. This house is suitable for families and for groups of friends.

The cottage is very well equipped and homely, very quiet and tranquil, close to the castle and other attractions. We also had, tea, coffee, milk and biscuits to welcome us. Plenty of parking. The garden is also very spacious and lovely.

A good choice of house if you want somewhere conveniently located for short drives to beaches, shops, coastal and country walks and with masses of outdoor space for children. Plenty of parking. Interior would benefit from a facelift in a few areas as would some of the kitchen equipment.

Woodside is a great family holiday cottage. We were 2 families sharing the house and there was plenty of room for everybody. The garden in particular was fantastic as it was so huge- the kids had a wonderful time playing in it and we were really grateful for the various garden games, footballs etc provided. All the appliances worked well although nRead moreeeded a few attempts to work the washing machine. A great base to explore all the Dorset must sees- Lulworth, Kimmeridge, Studland all really close.
