It's hard to imagine a more perfect location than that of this fabulous, waterside cottage, which has room for up to eight guests in four beautiful bedrooms. It's just a few metres from Waterhead Pier, which offers boat hire, cruises across Lake Windermere and dining options with a view. Stroll less than a mile to reach to the charming town of Ambleside, where you'll find an abundance of shops, pubs, restaurants, and even an independent cinema. Outdoor adventures available include not only some of the most beautiful walking trails in the country, but also mountain biking, climbing, canyoning, ridge scrambling and abseiling. There's no need to travel far for a great day out: within 2 miles you can visit the magnificent Stock Ghyll Force waterfall, Ambleside Roman Fort and the National Trust's Stagshaw Gardens, while the World of Beatrix Potter attraction is only 4.5 miles away.

Wake up to spectacular views of Lake Windermere when you stay at this tastefully decorated, contemporary home. Detached, and with an interior that's all on one level, it offers space for everyone to spread out and truly relax in this idyllic setting. Step inside to find the kitchen/breakfast room on your left, featuring a dishwasher and microwave for convenient group catering. This room also boasts a table with seating for six and opens onto the rear patio, perfect for that morning cup of coffee or for letting the dog out. The hallway leads to a utility room equipped with a fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and ample space for muddy boots. A shower room with WC can also be found in this area. On the opposite side of the main hallway, you'll discover a formal dining area with seating for six and a cosy, pebble-effect gas fire. This space flows into the light-filled lounge which boasts high, vaulted ceilings and a multitude of windows which frame the extraordinary views. This is a fabulous room in which to relax with your loved ones while enjoying a favourite film on the Smart TV. Keep exploring to find three handsome double bedrooms (one with lake views across the garden) and a bunk bed room, all with ample storage for clothes. Finally, there's a second bathroom which boasts a shower over the bath and WC.

Throw open the doors from the lounge and step out onto a raised deck, which is provided with outdoor furniture ready for sunny days of dining alfresco while admiring those ever-changing views of Lake Windermere. From here, six timber steps lead down to the enormous, enclosed lawn, which is ideal for energetic children and pets. The far corner of the garden leads on to the shared jetty, where you can moor a boat or simply sit and watch the sun slowly set over the waters of Lake Windermere. Additionally, there's a smaller patio for your morning coffee or perhaps some quiet time with a book, and you'll have the convenience of private parking for up to three cars on the secure, gated driveway.

The house is in an idyllic location, at the bottom of the garden there is a jetty on Lake Windermere. We sat there a few evenings admiring the view of the fells. It's absolutely stunning. The house is beautifully decorated and spacious, we were there as a party of six plus dogs, we were very comfortable. Also very quiet at night even though it's Read morenext to the YHA, we had a very peaceful stay. You're within two minutes walk of two good food pubs, a pet shop, chip shop, the pier onto the ferries that cross the Lake and boat hire. It's excellent for dogs, ours are water loving and loved the Lake. The ducks seemed very tolerant of them! Do bring duck food, there are evening visitors that come to the jetty and they're too lovely not to feed. All in an excellent holiday. Thank you. Hide

Holly Nook was perfect for our adult family stay, with ages between 26 and 66, plus a dog. Beds were comfortable and the linens excellent quality. Ample parking for 3 cars and a secure garden for the dog. However, it's the location that really made our stay. We barely used the cars, a very short walk to the lake ferry and bus stop with frequent serRead morevices, or a 15 minute walk up into the centre of Ambleside with its shops and restaurants. We were lucky to have great weather and sitting on the private jetty in the late afternoon watching the sun set over the lake was a unique treat. Hide
