Tucked away in the tranquil hamlet of Bierley, near Whitwell, and cherished by the same family for over 70 years, this welcoming retreat is perfectly placed for enjoying the Isle of Wight’s countryside and coast. Surrounded by rolling fields and quiet lanes, it’s ideal for walkers, with footpaths leading almost directly from the door across open downs, wooded tracks and, in season, a spectacular bluebell wood. For beach lovers, the island’s southern coastline is close at hand: Reeth Bay and Watershoot Bay sit just 2.5 miles away, perfect for rock pooling, fossil hunting and soaking up rugged coastal scenery. A little farther, Compton Bay (11 miles) promises a classic beach day with its long sweep of golden sand, dramatic cliffs and the chance to spot dinosaur footprints at low tide. Nature lovers can explore Newtown Creek (13.5 miles), a beautiful National Trust reserve, while nearby Niton (1 mile) provides a village shop, chemist and traditional pubs. Families will enjoy Ventnor Botanic Gardens, the National Trust Gardens at Mottistone, Blackgang Chine, Tapnell Farm and historic sites such as Carisbrooke Castle, Osborne House and Brading Roman Villa, all within easy reach.

Enter the house through a bright, airy hallway that opens into the spacious living room. Here, large windows beautifully frame sweeping views of the surrounding countryside, while French doors invite you to step onto the patio to soak up the fresh country air or sip morning coffee with a view. Continue through to the well-equipped kitchen, thoughtfully designed for easy self-catering, and a couple of steps lead you to the dining room that's ideal for family meals or entertaining friends. Through the dining room there is a peaceful twin bedroom, a quiet, cosy place for a restful night. (Please note that the steep stairs adjacent to this bedroom are intended only for emergency use.) Returning to the main entrance, head upstairs to discover three further bedrooms designed with comfort in mind. The main bedroom boasts a large window showcasing breathtaking countryside vistas, while the adjacent shower and toilet room adds extra convenience. Along the landing, you'll find a separate WC, as well as a spacious family bathroom for a soak after a day of exploring. Towards the rear of the house there is a cheerful bunk room with a cot for little guests and further on the light-filled double bedroom promises a tranquil, private space for sleeping.

Outside, expansive views over fields and mature gardens create a serene, private setting surrounded by a meadow rich with wildlife. Dine alfresco on the patio with the BBQ sizzling, unwind in the outdoor seating area, or get competitive with garden games in the sun. Gated private parking for two cars makes arriving and exploring the area completely hassle-free.

Ferndale was a lovely house to stay at! All the rooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable. The views from the living room were stunning and made it a great place to sit with a cup of tea. Easily the most well-equipped kitchen of any holiday house I've ever stayed in - as a keen cook this made me very happy! Overall couldn't fault the property, wiRead morell definitely be returning.
