A bright and welcoming house situated in vast grounds, this is the perfect place for large families or groups of friends to gather with their dogs for a special occasion or to explore the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The area is a haven for walkers and cyclists, with scenic routes to villages such as Gunnerside (2 miles), Swaledale (4 miles) and Arkengarthdale (6.5 miles) interspersed by pubs and stunning views from the surrounding fells. Farther afield, the market towns of Leyburn (12 miles) and Richmond (15 miles) are home to an array of shops, cafes and historic attractions.

This 18th-century former gentleman’s residence has been decorated in a traditional style to complement the original features found throughout its interior. The spacious living room features comfortable Chesterfield sofas and comfy armchairs laid across its wooden floor, with an open fire set in an ornate marble fireplace across from the wall-mounted TV. The neighbouring snug room is ideal for some quiet time, with further Chesterfield furniture, a TV and a Henry Howard piano set around an open fire beneath a beamed ceiling. The overhead chandelier in the dining room lights up a grand mahogany dining table, complementing the warmth from the open fire inside an antique marble fireplace on one side. There is plenty of space for a host of local ingredients - along with further seating - in the kitchen area. A boot room and wet room complete the ground floor, both very convenient for storing the group’s kit and washing off muddy paws. The first floor features a range of bedrooms and bathrooms. The first bedroom is a super-king-size which can be made up as a twin and features a range of mahogany furniture. It benefits from an en-suite shower room. Head up a small flight of stairs to the second bedroom, which has an imposing mahogany four-poster bed. The first of the two family bathrooms on this floor has a free-standing bath with shower attachment and offers fabulous views of Swaledale. There is a separate shower in here too. The third bedroom is another super-king-size zip-and-link, so it can be made up as a twin on request. This room also has a relaxing day bed in front of the window. Another small set of steps takes you to the second family bathroom with double-ended bath with shower attachment. The fourth bedroom includes an impressive wrought-iron king-size bed. The final bedroom on this floor is an 2 single bed zip & link to super king-size and a window seat where you can sit and look out over the front of the house. Up on the second floor, you'll find a shower room, another super-king-size bedroom with a zip-and-link bed and sloping ceiling at one end of the room. Along the hall is the seventh bedroom, a cosy and light single with a pullout bed and built-in wardrobe. The final bedroom features a wrought-iron super-king-size zip-and-link bed and window seat, and has an en-suite shower room.

The rear - and north - of the house backs onto the minor road leading up the dale. The front of this exclusive home faces south, looking out over the split-level lawned garden, featuring three patio areas with outstanding views of Whitaside and the Swale Valley. The extensive outdoor space can be further enjoyed in either the hot tub (which must be booked prior to arrival) or on one of the seating areas. Ideal spaces for relaxing and enjoying a BBQ. The flat lawned areas are ideal for a small marquee or games. The lawns lead to an enclosed field, securely fenced for your four-legged friends, towards a private footpath that leads to the River Swale.

The cottage was very well equipped, the heating and showers were first rate! definitely one of the best cottages we have rented in the past 20 year. The location was perfect for walking and the pub nearby was popular! We hope to visit again in the future.

A beautiful property in an excellent location. This was perfect for a friends get together. Facilities are perfect for a rural getaway. The Punch Bowl Inn nearby was also ideal for a meal out.
