This Victorian house combines timeless character with contemporary living and has been designed with comfort at the forefront. It is perfect for families and groups of friends, perhaps celebrating a special occasion or simply wishing to explore this beautiful part of North Yorkshire. Located in the pretty village of Scalby, where amenities include a shop, tennis courts and places to eat and drink, it is just 3.5 miles from Scarborough, an ever-popular destination for its sandy beaches, family attractions, entertainment venues, medieval castle, water park and the oldest funicular cliff railway in Britain. For something completely different, escape to the wilds of Dalby Forest (8 miles), home to 8,000 acres of walking, running and cycling trails and a centre for dark-sky stargazing, or take a trip to Whitby (17.5 miles by car, or 21.5 miles on the traffic-free Cinder Track trail), where you will find a sandy beach, atmospheric ruined abbey and a range of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs.

Reached by a sweeping gravel drive, the three-storey property is impressive; there are gorgeous period features at every turn. The grand entrance hall has its original half-panelled walls, stone fireplace (now with an electric fire) and a panelled ceiling, while in the elegant lounge the stylish seating is gathered around another stone fireplace with a wood burner. Double, glazed doors lead to the snug, a seating area with another wood burner, which is open to the dining area and impressive island kitchen with an AGA and electric cooker. On this floor you will also find a useful utility room and a cloakroom. A sweeping, double-width staircase leads to two bedrooms: the master suite with dressing area and its dream en-suite bathroom, and a king-size bedroom with views across the front lawn to the village stream. There is also a wet room-style shower room on this floor, and the Whisky Room – a peaceful sanctuary with a leather sofa, armchairs, bookcases, games, TV, electric fire and complementary tipples of whisky. The second floor has three handsome bedrooms – a family room for four and two king-size rooms, a bathroom (with a free-standing slipper bath and separate, rainfall shower) and a WC.

French doors lead from the dining area to the patio and beautifully landscaped, terraced garden, with a range of outdoor areas to enjoy. On the first level there is an enticing seating area with a BBQ, protected by a modern pergola with drop sides, a retractable roof and led lighting. Steps lead past more outdoor seating to a further level with garden chairs under an apple tree. Past a statue and through an arch, you will find the eight-seat hot tub in a secluded alcove, next to the well-appointed changing room with shower, WC and spacious changing area. From here, you can access the large, cedar-clad sauna.

This is a beautiful house in a lovely village on the outskirts of Scarborough. Very well equipped with a lovely secluded garden, hot tub and sauna.

Arriving into a warm house on a chilly day was a perfect start. The place was ideal for what we needed. All went well during the stay. Everyone had a great time and the grandkids didn't want to go home. Having access to the hot tub and sauna was the icing on the cake for the adults.

This house is amazing and as nice as the pictures are - they don't do it justice as it's even better once you get there. There's everything you need and some lovely walks nearby. Everyone of the party loved their room - there's really not one you could 'get stuck with' as they're all so nice! Will certainly be booking again it did not disappoint!

Fantastic property in a fantastic location. Very comfortable, clean and well equipped. Beautifully decorated and the hot tub and sauna were a great addition. Good communication from the company and owner. The village is beautiful with a great pub and cafe and is close to Scarborough and well connected. Couldn't recommend this property more.

The property was immaculate and the facilities more than we could have hoped for. The hot tub and sauna were enjoyed by all the family. The cooking facilities were comprehensive and the beds very comfortable. There was plenty of space to have quiet time whilst also being able to gather together in the kitchen/dining area.

Would have scored 5 if 1) bedrooms had blackout blinds or curtains- the shutters/velux blinds were poor at keeping light out and everyone in party slept badly due to this 2) easy instructions for the appliances/equipment were not supplied. Absolutely fantastic house. Everything we could have wished for. The outdoors area of hot tub and sauna were fantastic. The local village walkable with two pubs a shop and a cafe. There was a small inaccuracy on the listing. It stated that double beds could be made into singles, which was not the case. This did not spoil our stay and overall the property and location was perfect
