This fascinating property sleeps eight guests and offers a splendid holiday home on the Suffolk coast for families or group of friends. The historic cottage, built in 1760, once served as home and offices for the manager of what was then the famous Southwold Salt Works. Thoughtfully restored, it combines lovely period features and modern amenities and is within 150 metres of the beach and less than 0.5 miles from the town centre. Southwold is a lovely place for a stroll, with its mix of painted fishermen’s cottages, elegant period town houses and the famous landmark lighthouse. Buy fresh fish from seafood stalls in the harbour and browse independent shops selling local produce. Or eat out at one of the many cafes, pubs and restaurants. A walk to the end of Southwold’s restored Edwardian pier, with its delightful water-powered clock, cafes and traditional amusement arcades is a must. Enjoy a wander along the sand and shingle beach, or go for a carriage ride around the town, drawn by two magnificent shire horses. At the harbour, take the ferry across the River Blyth to the pretty village of Walberswick.

Enter through a gate into a private courtyard which leads to a large patio and the cottage. The roomy, open-plan and finely handcrafted kitchen is perfect for gatherings of family and friends, with large French doors opening onto a pretty patio. A large and sumptuous button-back sofa sits by a wood burning stove, while the long dining table has wooden country chairs for ten guests. The kitchen also has an island unit and pale wooden flooring, which runs throughout the ground floor. An exposed, original flint and brick wall is a reminder of the building’s history. There are two inviting sitting rooms. Both have cosy wood burners set in a brick hearth, exposed beams, latch doors and shutters at the sash windows. In the larger room, two large leather sofas provide a relaxing spot to relax and watch the Smart TV, while the second, housing a beautiful velvet sofa, is ideal for a quiet read or board game (supplied). A shower room with a WC is also on this floor. Upstairs are three bedrooms, furnished in soft marine shades and with shutters at the windows. The beautiful king-size master bedroom featuring an impressive ceiling beam, has a traditional wrought-iron bedstead and wonderful views across the marshes from two windows. An en-suite shower room with a WC, a charming button-back armchair by the windows and a period ornamental fireplace complete the picture. There are two comfortable double bedrooms, both with wrought-iron bedsteads, and a pretty twin room with original beams. The streamlined family bathroom has an overhead shower over the bath and WC.

Outside, a charming courtyard garden enclosed by traditional flint walls has a large dining table and chairs for eight guests. There is also an extra-large sunshade, a garden bench and gas BBQ.
