An attractive, stone barn, 5 miles from Bakewell in the Peak District, this Derbyshire holiday home is perfect for an extended family group. Sleeping eight guests, the four-bedroom retreat is in a superb setting for walking, cycling and the many other pursuits possible in the national park. The cottage is situated on the green in the attractive village of Monyash adjacent to the local pub and the Smithy tea room. The village and green does become busy on bank holidays and weekends particularly in good weather. Step straight out to explore the countryside. Follow the 4-mile Lathkill Dale route that takes you past caves and beside the River Lathkill to a waterfall, then back across the top of the scenic dale, or hike 2 miles up to Magpie Mine to see the remains of a 19th-century lead mine. Head into Bakewell to potter in the shops and pause in a tearoom for a portion of the town’s famous pudding.

Enter the barn and you’ll discover a cosy property with an abundance of exposed wood, as well as natural stone, giving it a welcoming ambience. The lounge, where there is a metal spiral staircase, has plentiful soft seating to recline on as you watch TV or chat together, while the kitchen/diner is another fabulous room. With a flagstone floor, this is arranged with ample, stylish country cream units at one end and a dining space at the other, with a farmhouse table to gather around for that homely feel. Also downstairs are a utility room and a shower room. Climb the wide spiral staircase to access the upper level of the barn, where there are two twin bedrooms, a king size and a bunk bedroom. There is also a stylish family bathroom.

Soak up the Derbyshire sunshine out in the garden. Here there is a lawn for children to play on and a table and chairs for outside dining.

Great cottage in the heart of Monyash with a lovely modern bathroom upstairs. Location is on the main road and when the motorcade of motorcycles arrive and depart it can be very noisy throughout the day, but returns to a peaceful village location after 5pm when the popular cafe closes.

We were delighted with this cottage. It was very spacious but cosy. It was very well equipped and I would highly recommend it for adults and family groups as well. The local pub was child friendly and there was a park within a few metres of the cottage. Great property.

We were able to spend a wonderful week at "The Barn" in Monyash. Weather permitting, you can spend time outdoors in a relaxed atmosphere. It was rather rainy and cool during our stay, but the house is so generously furnished that it's also very cozy inside. The living room, the dining area and the kitchen are spacious. The house is clean and very wRead moreell equipped with everything you need. Since the frying pans and oven trays rarely satisfy us (however, it is mainly the tenants who dont use the pans properly!) we each make do with our own. Since the central heating wasn't working yet, we were very grateful for the portable heaters. The parking problem mentioned in an other report did not apply to us. We were able to drive in and out without problems. We say thank you for the kind hospitality. We can recommend "The Barn" without hesitation. Hide

Lovely clean cottage, in a fab location. Well contained garden for the children, and a stones throw from friendly local pub and tea rooms (we got food from each and no complaints). Managed to get hold of Steph very quickly when we arrived to locate cot/high chair under the beds and she was very helpful. Due to location, it does get very busy arouRead morend the pub and roads, we had some issues not being able to get out of the driveway due to bikes and cars parking inconsiderately. We then used one of our cars to block the driveway on the road so we could come and go freely, and were met with very unhappy neighbours - we explained why we done this and wasn't blocking anyone else to come and go, only blocking access to the drive we were using, however we were sworn and aggressively spoken to on a number of occasions, and at it did damper the holiday. Lovely property in a great location. Only issue was my husband, myself and are grandchildren, struggled with the metal spiral staircase. Pub and cafe nearby were both excellent.

The cottage was perfect for our long weekend. There was an individual bed for everyone and the facilities were very good. Everywhere was very clean and tidy, we had a fantastic time. The close proximity of the pub made catering very easy.
