The stage is set for a holiday to remember at this Grade II-listed gem, located in a leafy residential area mid-way between the green space of Whitby’s Pannett Park and the busy streets around its beach, old town and harbour. Dating from the 1700s, the property offers luxury accommodation over four floors, with period features aplenty and every possible need catered for. Whitby is on the eastern edge of the North York Moors National Park and an easy drive to other seaside hot spots such as Staithes (5 miles), Robin Hood’s Bay (13 miles) or Scarborough (20 miles). But with so much to do and see on your doorstep, why not forget about your car until going home time? This is a town best explored on foot – just be prepared for the 199 steps that lead up to its most famous landmark, the gothic Abbey ruins that dominate the headland on the other side of the harbour.

Choose how you want to make your entrance – there are access doors on both sides of the property, one leading from the rear courtyard garden to the kitchen at lower-ground-floor level, the other via a flight of stone steps at the front to the ground floor drawing room; for unloading, we recommend using the former. You’ll know you’ve arrived, in every sense of the word, the moment you see the kitchen; bright, light and superbly equipped, it sets the scene for some great get-togethers, with a wine fridge and coffee maker serving up drinks for every occasion. The kitchen is open to a luxurious dining room where the drinks and conversation will flow around a large table surrounded by comfortable leather chairs. Talking points include a TV, ornamental fireplace and an original safe that’s been repurposed as a side table, while there’s even more fun in store next door where the games room is ready to test your table football talents. A Belfast sink here is ideal for rinsing sand from between the toes after a day on the beach, and a washing machine will take care of any laundry needs, while a cloakroom adds extra convenience to this lower ground floor level. A spiral staircase leads to the ground floor where period details abound in both the snug and the drawing room, their cornicing, chandeliers, sash windows and Georgian-era elegance complemented by a neutral colour scheme, sink-into sofas, soft lighting and Smart TVs. Centre stage in the drawing room is an ornate cast iron open fire with a gorgeous marble surround; this room also enjoys views over the front garden. The upper floors are where every airy room is sumptuously furnished to give a great night’s sleep and there’s everything you need to enjoy a fresh start each morning. On the first floor are two traditionally styled bedrooms, each with a plush king-size bed, TV, soft carpets underfoot, storage closets, chests of drawers and a calming colour palette. There are steps down from one bedroom to a fully tiled en-suite shower room, and also on this floor is a huge bathroom complete with wooden window shutters, a contemporary oval bath and a double-sized walk-in shower. At the top of the townhouse, the second-floor landing features a large wardrobe to serve its two bedrooms, one of which has a double bed while the second has twin beds. Most bedrooms have a TV and are accessorised for a fun, seaside feel – the mood continues in the luxurious family bathroom where coloured lights shine from beneath a wooden beam onto a free-standing oval bath.

A locked rear gate grants entry to the small walled courtyard which would be ideal for storing bikes or beach gear. There’s a table and chairs for those who’d like to relax a while; alternatively, the front garden is a real suntrap, with a copper beech tree for shade when you need it, and a large table and chairs where you can unwind and watch the world go by.

A comfortable and very well equipped house in an ideal location close to Whitby town centre. It took us a little while to get used to the layout but once we did, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The ideal place for a family get together by the coast.

This is a beautifully furnished property, well equipped and comfortable for a short or longer stay for family or friends. It is in an excellent central location in the town but that does mean parking is a bit of a pain. This was our second visit for a long weekend and we would definitely stay again.

The property was amazing and beautifully decorated. It was probably a little more than wed normally pay but it was for a family get together to celebrate my mums 80th birthday so we pushed the boat out - she loved it. The table football in the basement was great for keeping grandpa and grandson entertained.

We loved the location of the cottage and it was well equipped. There was some evidence of other dogs staying there previously - dog hairs etc. our dogs are poodles and have fur rather than hair so dont shed. One of the settees in the main lounge was in need of repair as it appeared that the bracket in the centre had either come loose or broken - Read morethe upshot was that we could not use it. The message inside the cottage invited us to enjoy the fizz that had been left but we hadnt been left any sparkling wine. However there was a bottle of white wine in the fridge. Small issues but I wanted to give detailed and honest feedback. Hide

Property is very well equipped for 8 guests, the kitchen has everything you need and more. Everything is lovely and modern but still retaining character. The bottle of bubbly left by the owners was such a lovely touch. We had a fantastic family stay and loved the little sun trap seating to the front of the property. My only gripe would be that we wRead moreere there for 4 days and only 2 '2 day' parking scratch cards were left. This would be fine for a smaller family who use one car, but we had 2 cars with us. As a property that sleeps 8 we would ask the owner to consider leaving more scratch cards when the larger bookings are taking place. Hide
