Bring the family to stay in this Lakeland escape in the heart of a picturesque village that was once home to William Wordsworth. If you enjoy cultural history, pay a visit to Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum (0.5 miles), or the National Trust’s Allan Bank (400 metres) with its hobby rooms for children. Walkers are spoilt for choice with the surrounding fells – you’ll find a peaceful expanse of water at Easedale Tarn, 2 miles west, while lovely Rydal Water is 2 miles south-east and boasts trails to suit all abilities, as well as a stately home and gardens. Cross over Red Bank into the stunning Langdale Valley to reach Elterwater, 2 miles south of the property, with its superb vistas. Ambleside is 5.5 miles south and Keswick is 12.5 miles north. But, with a wealth of eateries and independent shops within a few hundred metres, you have everything you need close to home.

Entering into a lounge area with stone flags and wooden beams, you’ll find seating focused around the inviting wood burner. Just off the living area there’s the kitchen and dining room, finished in a contemporary style, where you can enjoy a family meal together. Also on the ground floor is the charming downstairs bedroom with an en-suite wet room. This bedroom has the added bonus of having its own entrance adjacent to the parking area, which may be useful for guests requiring easy access. Upstairs, the master benefits from an en-suite shower room and a private balcony overlooking the rear garden. Also on this floor is a twin and a further double bedroom, both tastefully decorated with period features throughout. The family bathroom with its roomy tub is perfect for a long soak after a day on the fells.

A peaceful rear garden is flanked by trees for privacy; a lovely spot to relax and have a coffee on the patio. Or couples can take advantage of a little alone time on the balcony, while children play in the garden below.

Weve just had Christmas 2023 week staying in Orchard View which is based in the beautiful village of Grasmere so ideally located in the centre of the national park and only a stones throw from the main street but lovely and quiet. The cottage was lovely and warm with heated bathroom floors and very cosy when it was stormy and raining outside!! TheRead more kitchen is very well equipped and big enough if eight of you are staying. Be aware if staying in the winter, there is nowhere in Grasmere that sells extra logs for the fire if you would like some. All in all, we had a great holiday. Hide

Lovely property, plenty of room for 8 adults and an infant. Great location right in the centre of Grasmere. Parking for 3 cars easily but we squeezed in a forth. House was clean and tidy, had everything we needed.

House was perfectly situated in Grasmere. Plenty of parking which is a big bonus. The house itself is a little battered and tired and the carpets are very grubby. However, the downstairs bedroom and bathroom look to have recently been refurbed which was great. The house is in need of updating but is still very comfortable. The showers are very gooRead mored too. Beautiful garden but sadly couldnt use it as it is not secure for our small dog. This aspect was very disappointing as we had beautiful weather but couldnt spend time in the garden. It really wouldnt take much to fence off the two open areas. Doing this would be fantastic for people with dogs. We had a really lovely holiday in Orchard View, despite it needing a little tlc. Hide

The cottage was in an amazing location and very well equipped. Only a couple of bits that would have made it easier: 1. The property inventory was difficult to understand - I just wanted to know if certain things were in the property, e.g. hairdryer so I didnt have to bring my own. But the 3*, 4* etc on the list made no sense to me 2. There was a Read morelot of dust in the property which made my daughter sneeze all week (I thought this was probably due to it being an older property but she thought it could have been cleaner) Hide
