Just a peaceful walk or short drive away from the picturesque Torquay harbourside, this fantastic pet-friendly family property combines a traditional early Victorian holiday home with a newly renovated modern mews, comfortably accommodating 14 guests over a total of 7 bedrooms. This combination of two fabulous properties is the perfect choice for larger groups of guests that enjoy the style and character of boutique hotels but prefer the privacy and convenience that a self-catering break can offer. An 800-meter walk brings you to the metropolitan buzz of Torquay town centre, complete with a beautiful marina, subtropical gardens with swaying palm trees, elegant Georgian terraces, plus a myriad of bars and restaurants. For water sports, fishing, and sailing Torquay has a fabulous choice of beaches, while the evenings provide fine dining, theatre, cinema and shows for all the family. Don’t miss the town's Royal Regatta, held in August every year, bringing with it many additional attractions. Further afield, the bohemian market town of Totnes is 10 miles away, where you will find all sorts of boutique shops and cafes. For the walkers, the South West Coast Path passes close by, and the incredible landscape of Dartmoor National Park is accessible in under 20 miles.

The accommodation offers a combination of two lovely properties – a lodge, which is an early Victorian building, sleeping 10, that successfully marries the features and character of yesteryear with modern-day comforts and convenience. It offers a large conservatory with period tiled floor, dining table and lounge area. The cottage-style kitchen comes well-equipped with everything needed for cooking en-mass, and the dining room features an interchangeable dining table/pool table. The cosy living room is complete with plush sofas and a warming wood burner for those cooler evenings. There are five attractive en-suite bedrooms, one on the ground floor and the remainder on the first floor. You will find a handy utility room in the cellar and a fantastic games room with wide-screen TV, video games, beanbags and gaming chairs. The other section, sleeping four guests, is a modern cottage-style new build, offering fully independent accommodation with two first-floor bedrooms – one king-size, one twin –an upstairs bathroom and a downstairs shower room, kitchen and lounge. Both buildings are well equipped, comfortably furnished and presented to a high standard throughout.

Between the buildings is a sun-trap south-facing courtyard for morning coffees or afternoon drinks. The area is equipped with chairs and tables for al fresco dining. A delightful gazebo houses a comfortable rattan sofa and the brilliant Hydropool hot tub (available from Easter until 1st October.  There is also a seasonal BBQ area with worktops, a sink and a double BBQ grill. To the side, there is a wood-fired pizza oven for even more family fun and perfect for dry warm days.

The Rutland Lodge gave us a perfect place from which to enjoy the delights of Torquay and Peignton. With 13 of us fitting comfortably into this wonderful old house and the more modern annex, we were able to have a wonderful family holiday without being jammed together.
