Once in Southwold, you can take a tour of the lighthouse (1.5 miles), visit the only museum in the UK dedicated entirely to amber (1.5 miles), and check out the restaurants, cafes and shops on the pier (2 miles). Further afield, head to Lowestoft (18.5 miles) to wander around the Scores – the town’s steep atmospheric lanes that descend to the sea, or head to the Lowestoft Maritime Museum to browse the recreated workshop of the hovercraft inventor Christopher Cockerell.
