These former farmhouses that are close to each other in the small village of Melmerby, with impressive views over Coverdale, are great for two families who want to get away together but have their own space. In the village, there’s a traditional pub but the nearest shop is in Middleham (4 miles). Here, you can also find the awe-inspiring remains of historic Middleham Castle. Go for long walks in the windswept hills of the Yorkshire Dales, explore the caves, swim in the waterfalls and feel at one with nature.
Both of these cottages retain a lot of character; throughout them both, you can admire the exposed beams and feature stonework. The first is a ground-floor property with some internal steps in the entrance way. The lounge is a comfortable and homely room with high ceilings and two sofas which surround the TV and an impressive stone chimney breast with a wood burner inside it. Walking down a couple of steps into the kitchen, you’ll find a table and six chairs for enjoying an evening meal with your guests. There’s also a conservatory with a table and chairs for sitting with a coffee in the morning sunshine while admiring the surrounding countryside views. The master room has a double bed and the second bedroom is a twin room. If you need some ‘me time’, run yourself a bubble bath and get stuck into a good book. The second cottage also has a conservatory with a table and chairs. The living/dining room also has a wood burner beneath a classic stone chimney breast. However, this room also has a table and chairs in addition to the two sofas. Walking through into the kitchen, it’s an intimate space but has all of the essentials. Five steps then lead up to the master bedroom which also has a double bed, the second bedroom with twin beds and the bathroom with a shower over the bath.
Outside of both cottages is their own small patio area with impressive countryside views, and there’s also a large garden for children to play in.
