Set in the Cairngorms National Park and surrounded by woodland, this eight-bedroom stately lodge is a sight to behold. Gather 16 friends or family members plus two dogs and enjoy a memorable getaway with plenty of outdoor activity including mountain biking, cross-country skiing and hiking.

Formerly a shooting lodge, a sense of grandeur and period charm sweeps through this 19th-century property with high ceilings, sash windows and sumptuous furnishings throughout. On the ground floor, you’ll find a bright and breezy kitchen where you can enjoy a casual bite-to-eat at the neat table. But for more lavish meals, step through to the grand dining room and enjoy a sociable evening at the table with seating for 16 people. Afterwards, retire to the lounge and sink into one of the huge sofas or armchairs. Sit and chat with family and friends, practise your musical skills on the baby grand piano, or enjoy a spot of stargazing through the telescope. There’s a wood burner here too, to keep things cosy on chillier nights. A second snug room is perfectly set up for those who want to watch their favourite TV programme or catch up on some quiet reading in front of a delightful wood burner. Further entertainment includes a separate games room where you can rack up the balls on the pool table or enjoy the thrill of the race-car simulator. When it’s time for bed, head upstairs and choose between two king-size rooms, five doubles and a twin. The bedrooms are attractive and seven of them include en-suite bathrooms. Outside, a lawned garden with outdoor seating and loungers invites you to sit and soak up the natural beauty of the place. The patio table is also an idyllic spot should you fancy eating al fresco.

Family attractions include the birthplace of JM Barrie, creator of Peter Pan, and the camera obscura which offers panoramic views of the town. Just outside the town is the wildlife haven of Loch of Kinnordy. This RSPB nature reserve is home to rare wetland birds, that can be observed from the boardwalks and hides.

The area surrounding the holiday home is packed with hidden tracks and trails to explore. You’ll find various routes through the magnificent Glen Clova, where you’ll be rewarded for your efforts with stunning views across Loch Brandy. Alternatively, head to the nature reserve at Corrie Fee and marvel at the amazing natural amphitheatre, along with the fabulous array of wildlife. From here, routes take you to the summits of the Munros of Mayar and Driesh, or deep into the Glen Doll Forest.

Glamis Castle, 24 miles away, makes a great day out for all the family. Soak up 600 years of Scottish history on a tour of the castle, where HM The Queen Mother spent her childhood, before exploring the immaculate gardens or sampling the home-grown seasonal produce in the delightful restaurant. There’s also a playground and nature trail for children.
