Discover the beauty of slow country living with a retreat to this blissfully secluded abode, perched in a tranquil fellside location with far-reaching mountain vistas. Set less than 3 miles from the village of Brough and sleeping up to eight guests across four bedrooms, this property is ideal for a special friends and family celebration. Saunter along the countryside trail from South Brough and share a picnic as you admire the crumbling ruins of Brough Castle (4 miles) backed by the imposing slopes of Mickle Fell. Later, crack open a good bottle of wine and reminisce over times bygone as you stretch weary toes in the warmth of the crackling wood burner.

Enveloped by lush oak trees, this delightful farmhouse boasts an airy interior with exposed beams, soft checked fabrics, and soothing neutral tones. Perch on the bench to unlace muddy hiking boots on the stone-clad porch, then venture inside. Stepping into the cosy lounge, throw another log on the fire and kick back with a snack board or peruse the Smart TV for a crowd-pleaser film. With the scent of dinner drifting in the air, step into the elegant dining space and share a meal beneath the grand chandelier and wooden beams. Cooks of the group can pour a tipple and while away hours prepping meals in the traditional kitchen. Simmer supper on the Aga, dice up some veggies on the butcher’s block, and rinse glasses in the deep Belfast sink. For the observers, perch up by the kitchen island and flick through the action shots from the day. Freshen up outdoor kit in the compact utility space. As the night draws in, ascend the staircase to find two kings, a double and a twin. Each room offers a cosy space for relaxation with checked fabrics, soft sheets, and coordinating furniture. Early birds can snag one of the front rooms which boast sweeping vistas across the fells, whilst the back bedroom borders enjoy lush woodland views. Start the day with a sociable breakfast spread on the patio while canine family members chase tennis balls on the enclosed lawn.

Had a lovely stay, weather wasn't kind, but hey we are used to being wet. The accommodation was spacious, comfortable, clean and we were lovely and snug with the fire. Everything you need to hand and the wi-fi was spot on which our kids were pleased about ha ha ha. Would recommend and come again.

What a week 2 named storms, and a burst water main led to 3 power cuts and no water for 8 hours! That said, Mark the owner was brilliant at communication he contacted me within minutes of our first power cut to check that we had found the supply of battery-powered lights and camping stove and was easily contactable throughout the week. The most comfortable cottage we've ever rented. Well stocked and very comfortable, with gorgeous views. We were a group of 6 adults plus a small god and there was plenty of space for all of us to enjoy a pleasant walking holiday.
