In the heart of Margate’s super-fashionable Cliftonville area, this chic, three-storey house is a great choice for groups of friends or family gatherings, sleeping 16 guests in eight bedrooms, including six doubles and a family suite. No need to share bathrooms, as all of them have en-suite shower rooms. When you want to get together you can gather in the pub-themed games room or lay the tables in the dining room and kitchen for a formal supper. Meanwhile, right outside your front door there are all kinds of attractions for young and old, culture-vultures or tradition-lovers, from sandy beaches and seaside amusements to hipster hangouts and modern art.

There’s a general feeling of boho opulence in this cool holiday destination, where trendy modern touches mingle with intriguing artworks and ornamentatal period fireplaces. While the living spaces are decorated in bold colours, the bedrooms are fresh and bright, employing more neutral shades for a still-lavish yet calming atmosphere. After hanging your coats in the hall, head through to the gorgeous kitchen, where an American-style fridge/freezer will aid the cook when planning holiday meals. There’s a breakfast table here, plus a large table in the dining room beyond, the beautiful tiled floor continuing from one room to the next. In the lounge off the hallway there’s a Smart TV and boxes of children’s toys - this makes a lovely playroom by day and a cosy movie-watching space at night. One of the double bedrooms is also on the ground floor (perhaps an option for grandparents), with three on the first floor and two on the second floor, where you’ll also find the family suite: a double bedroom, a room with bunk beds (a single over a double bed) and an en-suite shower. For a sociable tipple simply cross the courtyard to the games room, where there’s a dart board, Smart TV and bar to provide entertainment. And when warm weather beckons you outside, you can grill some tasty local delicacies on the BBQ in the courtyard and dine alfresco.

Just under a mile from the house is Margate Main Sands, offering traditional family fun in the form of buckets and spades, a tidal pool, rides and amusement arcades. Head to Dreamland, 1.5 miles, for vintage rides, street food and live music, or go underground in the Shell Grotto, 1 mile, where 4.6 million shells decorate the winding passages. Art lovers won’t want to miss Turner Contemporary, the acclaimed international art gallery, or you could simply enjoy wandering the old town, which is buzzing with independent shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants.
