The houses are in the perfect location for enjoying the area, whether your favourite pastimes are walking, cycling, playing golf, or delving into an area’s history. The town of Tain is only 6 miles away where you can stock up on supplies, try out the town’s eateries or visit the wee museum there. There are golf courses at Tain (7 miles away) and Royal Dornoch (15 miles away). The village of Dornoch (14 miles away) is beautiful with a stunning beach where the sands go on for miles. At one end you’ll find Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve (17 miles away); close to the village of Golspie it makes a great family day out. It’s a haven for wildlife lovers and you may spot ospreys, greylag geese, wigeon, dunlin, bar-tailed godwit, seals, or otters depending on the time of year you visit. There are also beautiful walking trails and picnic areas in the reserve.
The area abounds with pretty towns and villages to visit, including three on the Moray Firth coast: Hilton (2.5 miles), Balintore (2 miles) and Shandwick (3 miles), where you’ll find some unusual attractions. Just off the shore at Balintore, the Mermaid of the North sits atop clach dubh (Gaelic for ‘black rock’). Her origins are deeply rooted in local folklore and every year she continues to lure lots of tourists to the area. The 10-foot sculpture is part of the Seaboard Sculpture Trail on the Easter Ross peninsula.
