Bring the gang together at this astonishing three-storey wing of a grand Victorian house for an unforgettable getaway. Carlisle sits within 12 miles of the rolling wooded hills of the Scottish Borders and is just 20 miles away from the Lake District, home to captivating bodies of water and famous peaks. The house sleeps nine guests across five bedrooms, with four dogs welcome. There are several areas within this traditionally styled house for socialising, including a formal and informal lounge, a kitchen/diner and a dining area within the conservatory, which looks out onto extensive grounds.

Upon entering, you will find yourself in a lobby which provides a flavour of the decor and original features that dominate the house. The spacious, formal lounge showcases scenic views through its bay window and a contrast of soft furnishings below grand chandeliers; a fantastic place to put your feet up. Across the hallway, an informal lounge is a great place to grab some quiet time, lose yourself in front of the TV, or enjoy a podcast binge or gaming session. There is also a handy wet room within the lounge. The kitchen/diner is a great place to cook and enjoy a family breakfast or quick brunch. For hearty family lunch or dinner party, head to the conservatory. A beautiful staircase leads to the first-floor landing, home to a huge window with views of the garden and fells beyond that you can enjoy from a corpulent sofa. A family bathroom with original glass wall panelling on the first floor is joined by four bedrooms: a king-size bedroom, two double bedrooms, and a twin bedroom. On the third floor, in the eaves, the master suite enjoys a super-king-size bed, an en-suite shower room, and a comfortable lounge area featuring exposed brick walls and bi-folding doors to a balcony area with breathtaking views. Doors from the kitchen/diner lead to the garden - a suntrap enjoying country views - with a children’s play area and a sandstone patio perfect for an al fresco lunch or BBQ. There is private parking for five cars in front of the house. While the owner lives on-site, complete privacy is assured.

The attractive village of Scotby offers a range of shops, cafes and eateries within 500 metres. Carlisle Golf Club stands within 1 mile of the house, while the city of Carlisle is home to an array of historic sites including a cathedral and castle, museums and art galleries, as well as plenty of attractions for youngsters. The scenery around the northern edge of Bassenthwaite Lake (23 miles) is typical of the rest of the Lake District National Park, while the towns between the hills, valleys and woodland areas of the Scottish Borders (12 miles) are worth investigating.

This is a fantastic place to stay with great hosts. You can tell its a much loved family home and it has everything you could need for a large group of people . The village is lovely and the village pub is so accommodating and the food is amazing. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay , including the dogs .

We stayed as a family of 9, including a small child, plus a dog. The property was generously sized with space which we could share (like family breakfasts) or disappear to. My parents had the top suite which had been recently been renovated to a high standard and the view from their balcony was epic. This was our first time at this property - it will not be our last. My 89 year old mother was delighted with the ground floor bedroom with ensuite wet room. The large lounge catered well for our big group : 8 adults, 2 babies and 3 dogs. We ate all our meals in the conservatory which had lovely views. Amazing house in a lovely location. The house had everything we wanted and it felt grandiose with its massive stair case and landing. Location was lovely and quiet. It's a shame that the back garden isn't enclosed, but easily solved with a lead. We didn't realise that netflix was available until the last night. Lovely place and you can tell it was a loving family home. The owners were really friendly and helpful. Only minor negative is that the garden isn't secure so we had to keep our dogs on a lead while they were out

Beautiful restored Victorian home, with everything needed for a superb stay! Very comfortable, with large sized rooms and bedrooms, easy to relax and unwind whether indoors or outdoors in the lovely front or rear gardens. Loved our family holiday at Oakbank! Had a tour of the property on arrival and a very interesting brief history of the house. The house is wonderful! Lots of social spaces but also room to get away from everyone if needed. We loved all getting together in the evenings in the lounge. Lovely house, had a lovely stay, garden had lovely patio set and barbecue, we even saw a deer, ample parking and owners were very friendly and there if you needed anything. Had to watch the Haha wall as my dogs would have fallen off it as theyre nosey.

What a fantastic house this is! Plenty of space inside and out, very comfortable and well equipped (especially the kitchen), perfect for our family get together of 7 adults and 4 dogs. Fantastic large family retreat. Really well equipped kitchen to cater for large numbers. Loads of space for everyone to enjoy, very warm and cosy. Nearby theres a great playground and playing fields and pub offered fabulous food.

What a super family get together we had . The host maintains privacy but is so very helpful and nothing is too much if you need anything. Oakbank is a beautiful home , huge rooms to gather in . I booked this property for myself and a group of friends I was so hoping the property would live up to the photos, and it absolutely did, both inside and out (fabulously Xmas decorated). This is a fantastic house for all the family and having a wet room down stairs is a bonus and add to that being dog friendly is just perfect . The room at the top of the house is an absolute gem . The local bar is also dog friendly and does an amazing Sunday lunch.

Stunning property, stocked with anything you could want for. Even had tea, coffee, milk, hot chocolate, jam, honey and biscuits on arrival. A little dog box of treats a poo bags were provided too! Beautiful spacious cottage with amazing views from the top floor. Hosts were great and helpful. Local community were very pleasant. Little touches like fresh flowers, teddies for little ones to cuddle and welcome pack were lovely. The only thing that let us down was the floors were not vacuumed and the surfaces were not dusted.

A beautiful home to stay in with a warm welcome and excellent location. Clean, tidy and spacious with enough rooms to gather in or spend some quiet time alone. Plenty of things to see and do in the area as well as a short walk to the local pub. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend the experience.
