Positioned at the end of a quiet country lane, this picture-perfect stone cottage sits at the gateway of Dovedale and is simply overflowing with character and period features. Sleeping nine people over five bedrooms, it’s the ideal accommodation option for families or groups of friends looking for a truly idyllic destination to celebrate a special occasion or hold a long-overdue reunion. Spend your days hiking in the Peak District National Park or kayaking at Carsington Water, and your evenings hosting al fresco dinners in the cottage’s pretty garden or sharing a bottle of wine and memories by the wood burner.

Step inside and you’ll find a welcoming hall with plenty of space for your outdoor gear. Take some time to get settled in the lounge and then head to the stylish kitchen to cook up some classic dishes for dinner. Gather the whole gang together in the impressive dining room – with its large table and wood burner, it’s the perfect place to host a celebratory dinner, make plans or just catch up on all the news. Alternatively, if the weather is fine, head outside to the large garden and dine alfresco. After dinner, pour yourself a glass of something bubbly and watch the stars come out, or head in to the cosy lounge, relax on a sofa and put your feet up in front of the fire. When it’s time to turn in, you’ll find five bedrooms with wonderful design features to choose from – three on the ground floor, one up the private staircase off the dining room, and one up a second private staircase from the hall. When you wake up in the morning, treat yourself to a lazy breakfast at the breakfast bar, where you can soak up the view of Thorpe Pastures before heading out for the day on your adventures. There is a games room located just next to the house with table tennis and table football.

This lovely property sits in Thorpe, a peaceful village at the gateway to Dovedale (1 mile). Don’t miss the lovely 3-mile circular hiking route that takes you from Thorpe village to Dovedale’s famous Stepping Stones. Alternatively, history buffs will love visiting the magnificent Thor’s Cave (6 miles), a natural cavern set in a steep limestone crag. There’s evidence that the cave was occupied during the latter Stone Age, as well as during the Iron Age and Roman period. The views of the valley from the cave are fabulous. There’s also a Neolithic burial site to visit just 2.5 miles from Thor’s Cave. Long Low consists of two large round cairns linked together - a structure that is the only one of its kind in England.

Great property in brilliant location. Loads of space, indoors and out, very well equipped. Lovely, lit-up Christmas tree welcomed us and we enjoyed the open fires. The village pub was very friendly with good pub grub. Wouldnt hesitate to book the house again.

Amazing location, stepping stones and good pub in easy walking distance. Well equipped property. Cleanliness left a lot to be desired, items found in drawers, glass table covered in dust and bath drain blocked Unfortunately problems occurred with the central heating so were without heat for 2 evenings

Very comfortable stay with extended family for a week. We were 2:families with a total of 9 staying. The cottage was perfect for our needs. The children loved the garden, plenty of crockery etc, ample space in house and walking distance of Dovedale stones and Thorpe Cloud. No complaints from us and would recommend.

We really enjoyed our stay here in this lovely, well-equipped house and large garden in an excellent location. The house is furnished to a very high standard and spotlessly clean and perfect for a large family group.

Really lovely cottage in stunning scenery. Large garden that we all enjoyed, especially the grandchildren. Highly recommend. It is helpful to bring kitchen tea-towels, oven gloves, condiments, cling film - the cottage has lots of crockery, cutlery and pots and pans.
