This fabulous family home is located in a peaceful hamlet just outside the Lake District National Park. The spacious property, with two living areas and a wonderful open-plan layout, is sociable and ideal for entertaining. Sleeping eight guests across four bedrooms, the property is perfect for large family get-togethers and holidays with friends. The house has a vast garden with multiple seating areas, where you can dine alfresco, admire the mountainous views and enjoy spectacular sunsets. As well as being perfectly placed for exploring the western Lakes, you’ll also be just 7 miles from the sandy beaches of the Cumbrian coast.

The property offers a memorable backdrop to special occasions and family celebrations, thanks to its elegant, exposed beams, striking stone walls, and fascinating antique furniture. The holiday home is set over many levels, creating lots of different spaces to relax and unwind, as well as providing spacious open-plan areas for entertaining. A small flight of stairs from the ground floor brings you to the first of the living areas. This bright and airy space features an island where you can gather for breakfast, a chic kitchen with an electric induction range cooker, as well as plenty of seating areas. A further living area can be found on the second floor. This cosy spot has a roaring wood burner, as well as a grand dining table to seat everyone. The property has four bedrooms, including a twin on the ground floor and a double in the eaves (watch out for the restricted head height). A separate entertainment room houses a snooker table. The fabulous garden is set across various levels and is dotted with seating areas where you can relax with a glass of wine and soak up your tranquil surroundings or enjoy meals outdoors in the sunshine. Just 2.5 miles away is the pretty Georgian market town of Cockermouth. Here, you’ll find a fantastic selection of independent shops and it’s a fabulous place to pick up local produce for dinner parties and family celebrations. It’s also the birthplace of William Wordsworth; Wordsworth House in the centre of town offers a fascinating insight into the poet’s early years. Grab your buckets and spades and journey to the coast for a traditional day at the seaside in Allonby (8 miles). Tuck into ice creams on the 5-mile stretch of sand and shingle beach, paddle in the waves or stretch your legs with a stroll along the Cumbrian Coastal Way, which passes through the village.

We had a wonderful week at Ellwood. The space was great, cottage is really comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you might need and our children loved the games room and outdoor space. Location worked well for us, lots to see within a 30 minute radius. Thank you!

We have had a wonderful holiday at Ellwood. It is a beautiful place to stay; spacious, quirky and comfortable, surrounded by a lovely (and huge!) garden. The seating outside the main bedroom is a suntrap and a lovely place to sit and take in the views of the fells to the south. We also really enjoyed the snooker room, which was a fantastic bonus. TRead morehe location is another plus, as it feels very rural but is only a couple of miles from the lovely town of Cockermouth. We would love to stay again! Hide

The house is incredible 4 bedrooms of great size and 4 bathrooms with large family room leading to patio and exceptional garden well kept. The location is ideal and so quiet but 10 mins away from Cockermouth and many attractions. I would highly recommend this fantastic property

This property is in a good quiet location 10 minutes by car from Cockermouth. This was not an ideal holiday home for us as no ground floor lounge area to share with our well behaved dog in poor weather. Nice sized garden is enclosed by approx. 1 metre stone wall and fencing but possible for our dog to escape and mention of sheep in garden so kept oRead moren lead. Would consider going back if not a dog family. Hide

Great cottage, fantastic quiet location, friendly neighbours and welcoming housekeeper. Lots of space for the family to spread out. We had the most amazing sunset while we were there and enjoyed watching the barn owl flying around.

Second time at Ellwood - such a beautiful house, garden and surroundings. So peaceful. Spotlessly clean, all items needed were there, plenty of crockery etc. 8 adults, baby and a dog - all thoroughly enjoyed! Only minor point was having to keep the dog on the lower floor as we were in the kitchen/lounge a lot and the garden not being completely secRead moreure (small dog) but we managed with a long lead and he loved the huge front garden! The cottage is beautiful and very well maintained! The split floors design is great for all family types and giving plenty of privacy for each room. This is an beautiful property set in a delightful area close to Keswick, Lower Water and other amazing walks. The barn conversion easily accommodated our large family and we were delighted with the character and fixture and fittings, everything we needed was provided. The snooker room was a great hit with the family as was the cosy living room and Read moreits log burner. We had an amazing time and would definitely look to book again. A first class property. Beautiful and cleaned to a high standard and very well presented. Mattresses were extremely comfortable after a cold winters day walk. Best stocked cottage ever. Didn't want for anything. The entertainment room kept the boys busy in the evening would highly recommend and definately be returning. Thank you for a wonderful experience

What a wonderful Christmas break in a super property. The house was decorated lovely and was the perfect setting for a family Christmas with grown up kids and their family. Very well equipped kitchen and the welcome pack was a lovely touch. We had a lovely week staying at Ellwood with all the family. What a beautiful place it is with stunning views. The facilities are great especially the snooker room. Brilliant location for visiting local area. We had lovely days out to Silloth, Keswick, Cockermouth and Maryport. Were already looking forward to our next stay at Ellwood !!

What an amazing stay! Everything you would need for a relaxing holiday was catered for. The attention to detail was fantastic, with all rooms spotless and affording luxurious comfort. The gardens are beautiful and surronding views are to die for. We would certainly recommend (and already have) this barn conversion and location to family and friends
