Magical, luxurious and truly unique - this restored castle is simply stunning and sure to provide an unforgettable getaway with a group of family or friends.

For a truly unique holiday home, look no further than this detached 14th-century castle complete with turrets, spiral staircase and crenellated walkway to the private sauna. With four bedrooms spread across four floors and a rooftop turret garden, this whimsical property is perfect for families seeking a memorable base from which to explore the beautiful Ayrshire countryside and coastline. Enjoy games of rounders and football on the extensive lawns, wander along the fairytale walk through the woods and picnic by the banks of the garden stream. Spend evenings playing board games in the sitting room as the wood burner emits its gentle heat or climb to the fifth-floor seating area to share a bottle of wine and watch the sun set over the distant sea. Head into Largs (3 miles) to sample some of the famous artisan ice creams and admire the yachts moored in the marina, the largest in Scotland. Further afield, the cosmopolitan city of Glasgow (35 miles) is worth a visit for its boutiques, museums and galleries.

Enter your castle into the cosy ‘Keep’ sitting room with quirky painted ceiling, comfortable seating and warming wood burner making it the ideal place for quiet conversation over a mug of hot chocolate. Your spacious kitchen/diner is the heart of the castle, where you can gather together to prepare delicious dinners and dine late into the night. Dual aspect full-length windows fill the space with natural light, whilst the beamed ceiling creates a warm and welcoming ambience. Take the stairs to the first floor and the spacious sitting room with patio doors leading to the balcony. Light the wood burner and forget about the stresses and strains of modern life as you watch the light play across the countryside. The first of the bedrooms is on this level, a cosy twin bedroom with an en-suite shower room and separate WC. Continue up the stairs to the second floor twin bedroom with en-suite shower room. Here you can access the crenellated stone walkway to the turret sauna room. The third floor houses another twin bedroom with en-suite shower room, whilst the fourth floor has a coombed space with a king-size bed. All of the bedrooms boast locally crafted beds and luxurious linens for a peaceful night’s sleep. Take a drink to the very top of the stone spiral staircase to the turret viewpoint, where you can sit on the comfortable benches and gaze out to sea as the sun sets. Outside, you can play garden games on the lawn, stroll through the woodlands and over the little stone bridge to take in the exceptional sea views. Practise your serve on the tennis court (by arrangement). There is parking for eight cars.

A quite fantastic property in a wonderful location. A remarkable transformation, or recombooberation, of a building from ruins to a comfortable, luxurious retreat. The attention to detail is amazing but the overriding feeling is a sense of fun. The owners should be very proud. First rate, while you should expect things such as a tight staircase and put mobile reception, it's a literal castle and it's by far the best castle I have ever stayed at.
