Set on the outskirts of Wensleydale this impressive property offers fantastic holiday accommodation for a family or group looking for a wonderful rural venue for a special celebration or get-together.

Ideally located midway between two stunning National Parks, the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, this charming property offers comfortable and spacious accommodation for groups looking to explore the sights and scenery of North Yorkshire, as well as being a good base for keen walkers and cyclists. The house sleeps eight people across four bedrooms, and you'll find plenty of space both inside and out, including a large garden room, games room, and access to an additional three acres of paddock and fields. All ages will enjoy a home from home stay here.

 

A warm and welcoming property, the decor throughout is elegant and full of traditional country charm, and comes with the thoughtful bonus feature of heated flagstone flooring. The open-plan kitchen/diner is the true hub of the house where everyone will naturally gather. The kitchen has its own breakfast bar and TV, perfect for a snack, and the long garden room is a beautiful setting for a special sit-down meal together, with views of the garden. There's also soft seating at one end, the perfect after-dinner snug. Play your favourite music with the iPod dock and choose from the selection of board games for a night of competitive fun and laughter. For even more fun, younger guests will love having their own space in the games room, where brightly-coloured beanbags and a TV with DVD and PlayStation await, while the wood burner and deep sofas of the lounge create a peaceful and relaxing environment for whiling away a companionable evening. After a hot soak in the bath or shower, head to one of the four bedrooms, all individually decorated in bright colours with pretty soft furnishings. Spend your mornings outside when the sun shines, enjoying the sprawling outdoor space. Breakfast alfresco on the sheltered patio, while children burn off their extra energy on the lawn and paddock. For lazy afternoons, the miniature terrace is a lovely spot for a refreshing drink and a BBQ. If you're planning to bring bikes, store them in the secure garage, and there's off-road parking for four cars.

The house is set in a sleepy little village close to the town of Bedale on the cusp of Wensleydale. There's a village pub under a 5-minute stroll away which offers delicious pub grub, with lots of other well-regarded gastro pubs within easy driving distance. There's also a Deer Park a short walk from the house, where you can see Deer roaming freely in the park for most of the year.

Beyond the village, the attractive town of Bedale (4.5 miles) is worth a visit. Stop for a coffee before making your way around the town's antique shops. There's also a swimming pool here, a great rainy-day option if you have little ones with you, and nearby Catterick Garrison (6 miles) has a cinema too. In the opposite direction, you'll find the charming market town of Leyburn (9.5 miles) where you’ll find traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around the handsome town square, which hosts a busy market every Friday. Leyburn is also home to the biggest auction centre outside of London if you fancy picking up a bargain. The nearby historic town of Richmond (8.5 miles) is similar in many ways and has a lovely setting along the River Swale.

There are lots of other pretty villages and stunning natural sights all within close range of the house. Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle are both under 17 miles away and the picturesque villages of West Burton and Askrigg are within 21.5 miles, so an abundance of choices for things to do if you want to get out and about. If walking is your thing, the Yorkshire Dales are something of a walker's paradise with many beautiful walks from your doorstep. And there are plenty of options for cycling too in Tour De France country.

We thought that the owners paid particular attention to detail. We liked that they left us a hamper and that things like washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets were there as otherwise it would have meant bringing them with us. Our family had a great holiday here. The house is spacious and flows really well. There are areas to socialise or be quiet with comfy seating. We felt at home immediately. Had a wonderful family get together at Rowan House, everything we needed for 6 adults. Arrived to a wonderful hamper which was a nice surprise, including local produce. Situated close to lovely towns and places to visit. Enjoyed the food at the Greyhound, a must for Sunday lunch. Would recommend this property.

The cottage was perfect for 3 generations allowing us lots of space, it felt like a home from home. We could not have asked for more and would consider booking again. Victoria the housekeeper was available for any queries and very kindly sent some left clothes onto me.

Booked a weekend away to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday, thinking was we'd get a nice spacious house and enjoy the weekend with a few drinks and nice meals with a few games. This is the most lovely, comfortable home and immediately you feel relaxed and at ease. Had a brilliant long weekend in this beautiful cottage. Could not fault a thing. The goodies were very much appreciated and a nice touch. Beds really comfortable and bedding and towels were lovely. Lovely big house with all home comforts. Lots of seating areas for family members to spread around if required. We spent a lot of time in the dining/garden room which was spacious and bright and a nice big table for us all to sit around. Thank you for the hamper of local treats. We all had a great time.
