Come together with extended family and friends to enjoy this country house with a 17th century stone cottage at its heart. Surrounded by rolling countryside and cycle routes in Nidderdale AONB, The Blue House provides an ideal retreat for a celebration at any time of year.

Set in a breathtaking spot in the heart of the glorious Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this spacious, light and refreshing property has been thoughtfully updated to offer elegant and cosy holiday accommodation. Built from York stone and dating back to the 17th century, this impressive and characterful stone cottage has plenty of space for groups of up to 17 guests. Situated within 10 acres of land which you are welcome to explore, the cottage makes a wonderful getaway for larger families and groups of friends discovering the beauty of the North Yorkshire countryside.

Entering this beautiful country house, the stylishly designed kitchen/diner offers a warm welcome, with underfloor heating beneath the original flagstone floor. The handsome kitchen features a full range of equipment as well as two dining tables: the first is perfect for breakfasts or a quick snack, while the main dining table provides plenty of space for a special family occasion. On the first floor, there are two main social spaces; a main lounge and a snug with Smart TVs and wood burners, and there’s also a pool table, piano and a selection of board games. The cottage has eight bedrooms, four on each floor. The ground floor offers a double, a king-size and two super-king-size zip-and-link rooms, while upstairs there are four super-king-size zip-and-links. The property also offers two bathrooms and three shower rooms (two of them en-suite). Patio doors and a couple of steps lead out to the wraparound patio from the kitchen/diner. The garden has plenty of outdoor seating and a fire pit overlooking surrounding countryside. An ideal spot for a BBQ, the garden also features a games barn with table tennis and storage space for bikes. Beyond the garden, you can explore 10 acres of land – conditions and livestock permitting.

The charming village of Grantley nestles in the Skell Valley, approximately 4.5 miles from the vibrant cathedral city of Ripon.

The city itself boasts a Thursday market, numerous coffee shops, pubs, restaurants and a nice collection of independent shops to explore. The cathedral is smaller than its close neighbour, York Minster, but is still an awe-inspiring sight. In addition, every night for at least 450 years, the Ripon Hornblower has sounded the curfew at 9pm from all four sides of the obelisk in the marketplace, come rain or shine, followed by a 15-minute history of the ceremony and the city – an experience not to be missed! If you are partial to a flutter, Ripon Race Ground has around 15 meets from April to early September. Known as Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse, it has a distinct atmosphere harking back to a bygone era – traditional tea rooms and bandstands sit alongside the champagne bar.

This area of Yorkshire has enough historical sites to keep you busy for several days: these include Ripley Castle (8 miles), Newby Hall (10 miles) and Norton Conyers (10 miles). Visit lovely Fountains Abbey and the gorgeous Studley Royal Water Garden, 4 miles away – this World Heritage site is deservedly one of the National Trust’s most visited locations. As well as the spectacular ruins of a 12th-century Cistercian abbey, the grounds are home to an Elizabethan Mansion, a medieval deer park and some of the most romantic vistas in the country.

Harrogate, 11.5 miles away, is also an absolute must. Encircled by its famous Stray, or 200 acres, of horseshoe-shaped grassland, the Victorian spa town has a bright and breezy open-air feel and is characterised by its impressive floral displays. As you would expect of such a bustling upbeat town, Harrogate boasts over 300 bars and restaurants together with all the shops, cinemas, parks and gardens you could ever wish for.
