This is an outstanding Georgian Grade ll listed former hotel refurbished in 2019, superbly located in two acres of hillside in the historic spa village of Matlock Bath.

Set in the beautiful town of Matlock Bath, this imposing period property sleeps up to 34 guests across its 15 en-suite bedrooms, making it a fabulous destination for special celebrations and reunions with family and friends. Whether it’s an evening deciding who’s got the X-Factor on the 6-speaker karaoke machine complete with lighting, or getting competitive at the pool table or air hockey, there is so much on offer at this former hotel. Bring a bottle of your favourite tipple to stock the bar in the property’s own pub and enjoy a private lock-in until the early hours. The outside space is also ideal for entertaining evenings with 2 acres of gardens with plenty of seating, BBQs for sociable evening meals and two indulgent hot tubs.

Step through the stone porch and double doors into the elegant entrance hall with original parquet flooring. On the ground floor, you will find the games room/pub with open fire, small kitchenette and a large bar for relaxed evenings. Stairs lead to the first-floor south wing. The large kitchen is fully equipped to cater for large parties with duplicate range-cookers, three dishwashers and two American-style fridge/freezers. Enjoy celebratory meals in the Byron Room where guests can gather around the elegant dining table and enjoy the views of Riber Castle. Set in the charming town of Matlock Bath, there are shops, restaurants and pubs all within walking distance. Lace-up your walking boots for a hike through the Derwent Gorge and along the Derwent River. Test your head for heights with a cable car ride up The Heights of Abraham and enjoy spectacular views from the hilltop park. There are rides for all ages at Gulliver’s Kingdom Theme Park. Plummet down the Drop Tower, plunge down the Log Flume and fly through the air on Rigger’s Revenge. Younger guests can enjoy Toyland and watch out for pirates at Smuggler’s Wharf. We had a great Christmas week, with twenty-seven of us the house worked perfectly. The place was spotlessly clean, with great ensuite bedrooms and communal areas. The two hot tubs were a real bonus. Would stay again and not hesitate to recommend it.

An amazing property in a great location. We were a group of 34 including adults, teens and younger kids. Each room having its own en-suite is a real bonus and the fact some of the rooms have king beds that can be made up into singles was great for our party. A fantastic place for a big family and friends get together. Loads of social spaces and all rooms had great en suite bathrooms. Nice not to be in the middle of nowhere (which is normally the case when your hire big houses). Great for all the family, I think reasonable price

Location was fabulous with wonderful views. The bar areas and hot tubs were superb and a great addition for a party. However as others have said the whole house is looking really worn and tired with repairs needed, two toilets in the rooms were literally falling off the walls, and another constantly running water making it impossible to flush. Stayed here for a week with family. Had a great time! The bar downstairs had plenty of space for us all to get together and was well stocked with pint glasses, and another bar upstairs had plenty of other glasses available to use. We had a lovely weekend. I read the reviews and understand some of the comments about the place being a bit tired, and sooner or later it will need a lick of paint. The furniture is generally a bit too rustic for a grand house of this type, so a bit out of place, but it didn't really detract from our visit. My family and I visited this property for 4 nights, it is a great space for a large family gathering, and although some of the furniture was tired it do not spoil our visit, we enjoyed the bar area next to the lounge mainly as the pub area below was very cold. House in great location. En-suites were great and a good asset. Bedrooms need some t.l.c. Furniture was unusable due to it not smelling very nice as it was old. House had an old smell too. Bar area was fantastic and was used by all the family most nights.

Shower trays in some rooms allowed a large amount of water to overflow onto bathroom floors (this problem occurred in rooms 3 & 4, and maybe others). Bedroom doors on some rooms would not close. Bad smell of sewage in hall on first floor.

This is a unique property with some great features. Its a great experience to have the run of a former hotel just for your group. The kitchen and living area are great and well-equipped and having two bar areas (including a proper pub) is great. The rooms are characterful and bathrooms modernised very nicely.
