Set in the heart of the Lake District, this elegant home has been transformed into a stylish and spacious venue for memorable getaways.

Lose yourself in the tranquil setting of the Lake District by staying at its heart in this dreamy cottage. Romantic interiors, historic architecture and cosiness from top-to-toe ensure all gatherings that happen here are happy and wholesome ones. Set on a grand estate near the north-east shores of Coniston Water, there are a host of scenic walks from the doorstep, or you can take a stroll into the nearby village to enjoy an evening at one of the charming pubs where they serve locally brewed ale.

Steeped in history, the house dates back to 1547 when it was built by the monks of Furness Abbey. The character of this house still thrives thanks to its original structure and clear Victorian influence. The presence of an interior designer is evident in the considered blend of old and new details. Every room has a unique ambience, for example, the sitting room is bookended by wood burners, each surrounded by plush seating areas for you to curl up in. Step down from here into the dining room, featuring a rustic fireplace and grand table made for hosting lively soirees. Also on the ground floor is a large kitchen, which boasts underfloor heating and plenty of worktop space for preparing meals on. Upstairs promises beautiful rooms too, starting with the four double bedrooms; three have pretty en-suites but there is one even more Insta-worthy than the rest. To the right of the regal bed, is a free-standing copper bath beckoning you to indulge in a long soothing soak beneath the bubbles. There is also a twin room and two bedrooms with bunk beds for the children or the child in you. At the front of the house is a vast lawn lined by a stone wall and plants, a pretty place for a picnic or BBQ with a view of the Coniston mountain range peeking through the trees. Guests are welcome to use the private lakeshore of the Tent Lodge Estate which can be accessed by a pedestrian path.

Coniston Water, the village and the Old Man are three icons of the Lake District. Set in the very heart of the national park, this area has been a long-time favourite for walkers and climbers, along with those that prefer a gentler, more relaxed holiday. Coniston Boating Centre is the place to hire boats and kayaks, a great group activity and unrivalled way to explore the serenity of The Lakes. Around 30 miles north of the cottages is Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England and a must-climb for the ambitious and those in search of a memorable view.

This cottage is beautiful and so special. We enjoyed a lovely weekend for my husbands 40th birthday with a group of 8 adults, 6 children. The house was plenty big enough for all of us and we weren't on top of each other, I loved that all adults had their own en suites. A quirky, intriguing ex-hotel house with good facilities (including endless hot water and an excellent dishwasher!), situated in a beautiful part of the Lake District. We spent an excellent Christmas with our two sons, their wives and our nine grandchildren, and the almost constant rain didn't matter a bit. Malcolm and Julia Donaldson
