Situated within the beautiful New Forest, just 1 mile from the delightful riverside town of Fordingbridge, this comfortable retreat welcomes up to 10 guests. With all rooms conveniently situated across one level, it’s ideal for those who have difficulty with internal stairs. The location is outstanding and the views from the garden superb; surrounded by countless country walks and stunning scenery, this cottage provides the perfect getaway for friends or family who want to immerse themselves in the delights of the New Forest.

Traditional decor and an open-plan feel throughout make this property a welcoming and homely place to stay. The split-level living and dining space with its high ceilings and exposed beams is an inviting space to bring your guests together in the evening – snuggle up with a book or favourite TV show and relax with the crackle of the wood burner in the background. When the weather allows, throw open the French doors to the mature gardens and let in the sweet scent of summer.

When it’s time to eat, rustle up something tasty in the bright and airy kitchen to enjoy at the dining table which seats up to 10. On balmy summer nights, walk down the five steps to the stone terrace and dine alfresco on the outside tables – the fire pit will keep you nice and toasty as the evening chill sets in. Breakfasts and quick snacks can be enjoyed at the breakfast bar in the kitchen which seats up to six – perfect for those times when you need to just eat and run.

When the night draws in, retire to the welcoming bedrooms. The master bedroom with its heavy wood king-size sleigh bed and high beamed ceilings can be made into an en-suite by closing off the adjoining bedroom. Or leave it open and let the kids enjoy the jacuzzi bath after a long day getting muddy! Two doubles, one with en-suite wet room if preferred (suitable for disabled users), a twin with en-suite shower room and a bunk room suitable for both adults and children, are all a real treat after busy days exploring the forest.

Outside, you are spoilt for choice. From the front garden, drink in the countryside views while you enjoy your morning coffee at the bench-style table, pups at your feet. Or relax in the cottage garden at the rear of the property and enjoy a peaceful afternoon amongst the colourful shrubs and pretty plants. Little ones can hunt out the play area with swings and trampoline and make their own fun as the adults take the weight off their feet for a few minutes.

LOCAL AREA: A short stroll to the top of the paddock will lead you to some fantastic woodland walking. Perfect for muddy hikes with the kids or the four-legged members of the family, it boasts gorgeous views and even a bench to stop a while to take in your surroundings. The town of Fordingbridge is only a mile from the cottage and here you can visit the museum, do some shopping and cross the famous seven-arched medieval bridge. Pack a picnic and find a spot on the banks of the river; as it’s a popular place for families on sunny days, you might want to join the locals taking a paddle when it’s hot. As with most places in the New Forest, you can be in enchanting woodland one minute and walking around picturesque villages the next – just watch out for the semi-wild ponies as you go!

ACTIVITIES NEARBY: Golfers will love the various courses across the New Forest and just a few hundred yards from the property, there’s the possibility for a spot of private fishing on the Hampshire Avon (extra cost). There’s also access to a lovely private picnic area set in ancient woodland, and guests have the use of a ‘picnic rucksack’ to make sure that they have everything needed for an outdoors treat. Children and dogs will love playing in the sun or scampering amongst the fallen leaves as the chef of the party prepares a mouth-watering al fresco lunch. There’s also an excellent play area nearby with bench, tunnel slide, swings and trampoline for when little legs need a bit of extra activity. If you have your own horse, bring them (additional cost) to stay – the DIY paddock adjoins a bridleway which gives access to the National Park. Slightly further afield, you can climb, zip wire and quad bike – try some of the outdoor activities arranged by New Forest Activities in Beaulieu (19 miles) and make sure that you visit the famous National Motor Museum while you’re there.
