A delightful Tuscan retreat overlooking a verdant valley and olive groves, this bright and spacious countryside villa is the perfect escape for families and groups of friends wanting to experience La Dolce Vita. Traditionally-styled, it’s ideal for extended families or couples who love their own space but also like to come together to share the stories of the day. The beach is a 30km drive from the property and you’re under a mile from the local frazione of Crespina where you can pick up delicious local ingredients for your pre-arranged Italian cooking classes back at the Tuscan-style kitchen.

Drive through large iron gates and you’ll be greeted by the most wondrous lemon-hued square building. Inside, high vaulted ceilings and light-flooded rooms give a feeling of complete serenity. The heart of the home has to be the large sitting room which leads out to the terrace, a perfect spot for pre-dinner drinks before heading to the elegant formal dining room to dine in style. An outside terrace is an alternative for balmy nights where you can breathe in the warm scented air as you relax under the Tuscan stars.

When you need some alone time, a delightful tea room and tranquil yoga room can be sought, or upstairs the great library with its shelves of books and map-reading table is another option. When you have regained your energy, head to the upper floor to join the others in the family games rooms where you can challenge your guests to a game of table tennis or cards. On sunnier days, the small rooftop terrace will allow you to lie back on a sun lounger and enjoy the Tuscan sun and spectacular countryside views. Lastly, walk down the paved path flanked by olive trees to have a swim in the private pool. It doesn’t get much better than this.

LOCAL AREA: The little hamlet of Crespina is situated in the Province of Pisa in the Tuscany region of central Italy. Surrounded by hills, the area around the property enjoys a wonderful climate and beautiful scenery. Because of this, it has a large number of elegant manor houses from the late 18th and 19th centuries, and a strong connection with painters and artists. Near to the medieval town of Lorenzana, this is proper wine-producing country – most famous for the celebrated Bolgheri. Just 30km from the west coast at the port city of Livorno, you are near to some excellent seafood restaurants and beautiful architecture, including the bastions of the 16th-century, Fortezza Vecchia, which opens onto the city’s Venezia Nuova quarter and its charming canals. You can also discover the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Renaissance art centre of Florence and the breathtaking Siena, all under a couple of hour’s drive from the villa.

ACTIVITIES NEARBY: There are some stunning villas to visit in the Crespina Lorenzana area – Villa Belvedere with its English garden and pretty limonaia, Villa Il Poggio, Villa Corsini Valdisonzi as well as the villa that is home to the contemporary art collection of Carlo Pepi. If you visit in September, you can attend the Owl Fair – a symbol of the area, owl breeding is a much-loved, centuries-old tradition. Visit the Palazzo dei Lorenzo in Lorenzana which is next to the Church of Santi Bartolomeo e Cristoforo, great examples of beautiful Italian architecture. The Piaggio Museum is just 10km away in Pontedera, and the Castello dei Vicari castle and museum, 5 km, offers an interesting insight into the history of the area. Ride out in the Tuscan countryside at Il Ranch di Carlotta, just over 5 km away in Cevoli di Lari, where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery from atop one of their friendly horses.

GETTING THERE: Nearest airport: Galileo Galilei (PSA) 30km. Nearest train: Pisa Centrale 30km.
