A striking ‘maison de maitre’ set within 50 acres of private grounds in the picturesque Occitanie region, and just an hour’s drive of Toulouse and the airport. Perfectly placed for convenient travel links as well as offering elegant accommodation and superb leisure facilities.

Inside, the house has been lovingly restored by the current owners who has a flair for design. An interesting mix of period French furniture sit alongside carefully selected Far Eastern pieces to create an eclectic, homely atmosphere; it’s a terrific location from which to host a gathering.

At the heart of the house lies a vast and welcoming kitchen with exposed beams and flagstone floors; well-equipped with range cooker and large central island, it lends itself well to busy breakfasts and all the associated hullaballoo of a family meal.

The elegant sitting room with wood-burning fire is an ideal spot for socialising of an evening, after indulging in a hearty meal sat beside the enormous fireplace in the separate dining room. Informal time together can also be enjoyed in the cosy pool house sitting room, equipped with TV and DVD player.

Sleeping 16 across seven beautiful bedrooms, three have four-poster beds, some boast en suites and all have been dressed to reflect the thoughtfully curated mix of traditional and contemporary styling throughout the property.

The grounds of The French Manor House are simply superb. 50 acres of rolling countryside to explore and an 18-meter L shaped pool, child-friendly, and efficiently served by the pool house and its enticing games room.

The tennis court with practice wall, badminton net and boule court shall surely appeal to those in search of activity, adding balance to what’s bound to be a restful and relaxing break.

LOCAL AREA: Less than 1 hour from the historic city of Toulouse, 20 mins from the spectacular caves at Mas d'Azil, close to several lovely local markets and of particular note is the Saturday market at St Girons, a beautiful town near the Pyrenees. Skiing in the Pyrenees is less than 2 hours' drive (the old spa town of Luchon is a particularly attractive skiing village) and the Pyrenees also provide stunning opportunities for walking and cycling. Less than 1 hour from historical Chateau de Foix and less than 2 hours from the medieval walled city of Cascassonne.

The Ariege is a wonderfully unspoilt department and there are many pretty villages within a few minutes drive or cycle ride from The French Manor House. Of particular interest is the hill top village of Carla Bayle, home to many artists who exhibit their work in the village's several galleries and with lovely views of the Pyrenees.

ACTIVITIES NEARBY: There is a very helpful information folder with details of recommended local shops, restaurants, markets, cultural, sporting and recreational activities plus many other suggestions on what to do and where to go in the vicinity.

This is excellent bicycling country, reasonably flat, and with a dedicated trail from the House to the next door village of La Bastide de Besplas and into the surrounding countryside. Bicycles can be hired through the caretaker.

There are fine walks in many directions. Near Carla-Bayle is a very popular children's "treetops" adventure centre. There are prehistoric caves at Tarascon, and ancient cave drawings at Niaux. The fascinating caves of the Grotte du Mas d'Azil (10 kms) are "drive-through" but can also be visited on foot.

The 18-hole Golf de l'Ariège is near the pretty village of La Bastide-de-Sérou (20 kms).
