The property offers three floors of elegant accommodation. On the ground floor is the main entertaining space, comprising of a cosy sitting room with deep, squashy sofas and a roaring open fire, a drawing room, dining room and a south facing sunroom where you can unfurl with a book while keeping an eye on the little ones playing on the lawn and in the bluebell wood. An inviting kitchen and breakfast room is kept warm by an oil-fired Aga and is a charming space to gather with coffee and pastries as the sun begins to rise in the morning. And there’s no shortage of snoozing space, with nine restful bedrooms offering 19 guests achingly beautiful views across the countryside.

Outside, 30 acres of formal gardens, paddocks and pasture are yours to explore. The terrace makes an excellent spot for dining alfresco or enjoying a sundowner on a warm summers evening, while the extensive lawns are perfect for garden games, picnics and relaxing strolls. When you’ve worked up an appetite, you can dine out in one of the local country pubs or pick up supplies for a homecooked affair in either of the quaint villages of Old Down, Tockington or Olveston, all within 1 mile.

The market town of Thornbury is 3 miles away with a larger array of amenities or head 10 miles to the buzzing city of Bristol. Here there is plenty to see, do and explore, whether that might be crossing the Clifton Suspension Bridge, splurging in the shopping quarter or taking the little ones to the zoo or aquarium.

ACTIVITIES NEARBY: Old Down Country Park is a half-mile walk from the house where families can explore 66 acres of open space, colourful gardens and enchanting woodlands, and spend hours of fun in the play areas with a jumping pillow, an adventure playground and trampolines. There are farm animals to meet, arts and crafts to enjoy, and a café which is open daily and serves homemade cake, hearty cooked breakfasts and delicious lunches.

If shopping is more your thing, Cribbs Causeway - the largest shopping centre in the South West - is within 7 miles and is the perfect place to pick up a bargain or two. For golfers, the Kendleshire, Filton and Henbury golf clubs are within 9 miles and if you’re looking for outdoor activities, Windmill Leisure is 9.5 miles away and offers everything from archery to fishing and bushcraft to orienteering.
