Set amidst the rugged beauty of the Highlands, by the eastern shores of Loch Shin, this handsome stone lodge is a wonderful base for a countryside escape.

Sleeping 13 guests across six bedrooms, this 19th-century traditional stone lodge, is set on a quiet single track road looking out towards Loch Shin. It’s just 7 miles from Lairg, in the heart of Sutherland - an ideal location for families or a group of friends who want to enjoy a country house lifestyle together, surrounded by nature and wildlife. It’s also a great place to embark on further adventures through the northern Highlands, or towards the pristine shores of Scotland’s coastline.

Step inside this recently refurbished home, where beautiful period features harmonise with contemporary creature comforts and thoughtful attention to detail. Shake off muddy gear in the handy boot and utility room where you’ll also find a handy drying cupboard. Venture into the drawing room and curl up on the cosy seating where you can all enjoy the warmth of the welcoming open fire and unwind with favourite films on the TV and DVD player, or choose from a variety of games for a group challenge. Musical guests will be thrilled to find a grand piano for Liberace moments, and there’s an electric organ to complete the in-house performance. As tummies rumble, cooks can rustle up fabulous feasts in the spacious well-equipped kitchen with its handsome Aga and ample storage. Catch up on the day in the dining room or on warming evenings, dine alfresco with a BBQ and enjoy the loch views while children and pup pals enjoy the spacious garden or table tennis. As night falls, there are six pretty bedrooms with cosy beds and crisp linens where you can enjoy the sweetest of slumbers. A short drive away, there’s a pub, shops, restaurants and amenities (7 miles).

Great house in a fantastic location. Extremely comfortable and well stocked. Full of interesting artworks and knick knacks and history, without being overly precious. We had a wonderful week with family and friends and really enjoyed getting to know the area. Thank you for sharing your home.

There are not that many places an extended family of 12 can hire for a decent holiday in the UK... many are ultra-pale, insipid magnolia nightmares. Shinness was perfect. It is warm and comfy and the eclectic selection of chairs, side tables and bookshelves are very homely. So many wonderful books to read, games for the children, and a roaring fireRead more every night. Walks around the Loch and the woods were magical. The 4 hour round trip to Durness one way and back the other is breath-taking. Hide
