Enjoy a luxurious family holiday in this stunning historic period house with wonderful mature gardens, summer house, heated kennels with run, and a wood burner perfect for those cooler evenings.

Take your party on a Scottish holiday to remember at this elegant country home. Set in beautiful Aberdeenshire, it is approximately 1 mile from the idyllic village of Tarves and even closer to the National Trust’s Haddo House. Luxuriate in the exceptional comfort and special touches of the five-bedroom period property, which sleeps up to ten guests and also welcomes up to three of their four-legged friends. Spend long summer days relaxing in its glorious lawned gardens and happy evenings playing games together in front of a crackling wood burner. Make the most of day trips to the beach, visits to Scottish castles and long walks or cycle rides through the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in which it is situated.

Hang your coats and leave your boots in the property’s vestibule before making your way through to the reception hall and then the capacious lounge, where you and your family and friends can light the wood burner and relax on the sumptuous seating while you watch TV, listen to music or simply chat together. Head on through into the kitchen/diner to make fresh coffee or tea for your party or to prepare a tasty meal to enjoy at the table. Settle the children in front of the Smart TV or challenge them to a snooker or darts match in the games room. Find you also have a useful shower room, with WC, and a utility room at ground-floor level. Make your way up to the first floor to decide which of the three bedrooms you would like to lay your head in. Discover an elegant family bathroom, with roll-top bath, and a snug also at this level. Venture up to the second floor to find two more bedrooms and another bathroom. Relish the opportunities for outdoor living at the house, where you can relax on the patio or in the summer house. Rex and Rover can make use of the fully enclosed, heated kennel with its large run and you will find there is plenty of off-road parking.

As well as its own grounds, this family home near Tarves villages is only 2.5 miles from Haddo House. A grand manor, this Victorian home has 240 acres of country park to explore, as well as a famous deer park, meaning walkers and wildlife watchers will be able to easily satisfy any cravings for fresh air and rambling paths. There are also a huge number of outdoor activities to have a go at such as biking, fishing and golfing

To top up on supplies and learn more about the local area, Tarves village is 2 miles away and home to its own Heritage Centre. As well as fascinating Edwardian and Victorian pieces, the centre also exhibits some much older artefacts too, including an incredible bronze age sword and flint arrowheads.

If history is your thing, you're in the right place. 11 miles away, you can take a trip to Fyvie Castle on Scotland's magnificent castle trail, while closer to home is Tolquhon Castle (3.5 miles). At 21 miles away, you can also visit Castle Fraser.

For a breath of sea air, Newburgh (10.5 miles) has a lovely sandy beach which is home to a 400-strong colony of seals at the mouth of Ythan River. If you'd prefer to hit the bright lights for a while, the city of Aberdeen is 18.5 miles away and boasts a plethora of restaurants, bars and attractions, including the Aberdeen Maritime Museum and the old fishing village of Footdee.

We had a great holiday at Shethin House. Its very comfortable and had everything we needed for our kids and 2 dogs. Location is quiet with lots of space for dogs to run around. Kids loved snooker room. Location for visiting local castles, and beaches north of Aberdeen

We had a lovely long weekend at Shethin house. The property is well equipped with everything you need and more. Located minutes from Haddo House. There was plenty of room for our family and we are already looking to book for a week next year. The hosts were lovely and arranging entry/exit was a breeze. Thanks again for your hospitality!

Absolutely loved this house, perfect for a family of three generations including children from toddler to teenager. Enough space to find a quiet spot, but big enough rooms to all be in one. Shethin was the perfect place for myself, my partner and our dog, Kenya. The house is huge, and comes complete with very large gardens in a private location. The home was very clean, with stunning views out of the windows.
