Admire the rich history and unique ambience on offer in this stunning and expansive Elizabethan Manor, ideal for celebrating a special occasion or simply to take time out to relax in peaceful privacy.

Have you ever wanted to be lord or lady of the manor? Fulfil your dreams in this sublime five-bedroom Elizabethan manor house, set between the market towns of Axminster and Honiton (7.5/5 miles). Ensconced in the heart of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Blackdown Hills, and just 12 miles from Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast, this exquisite Grade II listed manor is a gateway to green worlds of wonder, historic charm and thrilling maritime adventure. Meet the Axe Valley Wildlife Park's exotic birds and animals (6 miles), teach the kids to ride in Hawkchurch (11 miles), take a fossil-hunting tour, kayak the Jurassic Coast and charter a boat around Lyme Bay. For an intense, empowering experience, try Skydive Buzz in Dunkeswell (10 miles). Experience coasteering, paddle boarding, rock climbing and abseiling and find your new obsession.

As you approach the manor, you'll immediately sense the history and grandeur of this remarkable estate. Through the porch, Elizabethan door and hallway, you'll come to the Great Hall, where you will be immersed in the intoxicating ambience of antiquity. With its high ceiling, stone fireplace, leaded windows, wooden floor and long baronial table, you'll be lords, ladies and knights of your own little world. After seafood banquets, retire to the seductive oak-beamed lounge, gather on leather sofas around the glowing wood burner to recount days of adventure and plan ones to come; escape to the nook for a brandy and a game of chess. Some of you may slip away to the sumptuous cinema room for fun film nights. For some, the beamed kitchen may be your haven, with its flagstone floor, storage island, copper light shades and modern retro technology. Up the three separate staircases, the Long Room is sedate and majestic, with its moulded ceiling, carved fireplace, antique furniture and superb raised library. Unwind in the tranquil bathroom or atmospheric en-suites, and retire to your elegant bedrooms – everybody will want the four-poster room, but all five bedrooms will appeal in their own way; one has lovely views of the church, another has its own staircase, and four of them share two bathrooms. The enclosed courtyard, splendid gardens, tennis court and outside swimming pool (June-September) complete your noble home.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Our stay at Marwood Manor exceeded all expectations. Elegantly decorated with period furnishings, this ancient, spacious manor house retains its historical integrity while at the same time being technologically sophisticated. In particular, the Great Hall, with its 25 ceilings, ancient wood paneling, a large fireplace and a centuries-old dining tabRead morele, is rich with history. Hide
