LOCAL AREA: The holiday property is 2km west of Ollioules, which is north of Sanary sur Mer. You can reach the main transport hub in Marseilles in around 1 hour (62 km) away for domestic and international rail connections. You are well placed for exploring the Var and the wider Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region and the French Riviera. Famous for its golden beaches, olive groves and fields of lavender, you’ll also love it for its food and drink. For example, try the olive oil, tapenade, tian, Sisteron lamb, Banon cheese, Cavaillon melon, Menton lemons, Calissons d’Aix biscuits and Provence honey.
This holiday home is close to the seaside town of Sanary sur Mer. Characterised by its charming pink and white buildings, its little fishing port and marina is gilded by palm trees. A popular market is held in the town every Wednesday so you can fill up with lots of local delicacies. The town and bay are protected from the Mistral by the wooded hills dominated by the Gros Cerveau massif. Wine lovers should head to the vineyards at Bandol and connoisseurs of fine food to Domaine de Terrebrune near Ollioules. This Michelin-star awarded restaurant is an absolute must.
ACTIVITIES NEARBY: Situated in the Var of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region there are lots of seaside resorts to visit – so sunbathe, build sandcastles, dine and relax at any one of the French Riviera’s exceptional beaches between Bandol and Saint-Raphael. The principal areas in the Var include the Côte D’Azur, the Massif des Maures, Pays de Fayence, and Haut Var. Ollioules is close to Bandol and the villages of La Cadiere-sur-Azur and Le Castellet which are both very scenic. Among the other highlights along and near the coast in the western Var seek out the Iles d'Hyeres. These islands, just a short distance off the coast and including the Ile de Porquerolles, are a major and very beautiful coastal attraction forming the Port Cros National Park.
Near the coast, in the centre of the department, we strongly recommend you take a trip to visit the scenic village of Bormes-les-Mimosas, just a short distance inland. West of here, the Domaine du Rayol with its gardens and coastal scenery is very lovely, and not far from the resort of Cavalaire-sur-Mer.
In the wider area of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, you could visit the Alps, appealing to lovers of the skiing, snowboarding and other outdoor activities. Head out to a national park and embark on countless hikes through either Mercantour National Park, Le Queyras Regional Nature Park and Les Écrins National Park.
