Step up to the entrance and admire the handsome facade of this historic home which offers ample off-road parking for six cars and practical touches throughout the home. A hallway leads into traditional country-style interiors where the elegant lounge boasts an open fire, bay window, stylish seating and a separate corner for casual TV time. The spacious dining room lies at the heart of the home with a long table for a dozen guests, a period Welsh dresser, and a piano to play for an aspiring Liberace. For chefs, the kitchen is a dream, fully-equipped with every appliance and gadget you could need to create memorable family feasts. And towards the garden side, there's a handy boot room packed with storage for the muddiest of wellies, a utility room for laundry hour, and a handy shower room and WC. Hawkshead is celebrated for its literary connections to Beatrix Potter and its charming higgledly-piggeldy leaning cottages, narrow winding pedestrian streets and artisan shops to explore. Follow the Beatrix Potter trail to discover the author's generous legacy to the region, including the author's farmhouse at Hill Top and The Beatrix Potter Gallery (2.5 miles) which has seasonal exhibitions showcasing the author's life and work and, a favourite with young children,The World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness (10 miles). Hire fishing rods at Esthwaite Water Trout Fishery (2 miles), and see who can net the finest catch. Daredevils will enjoy the lofty tree-top rope climbs at Grizedale Forest (3 miles), or explore the National Trust's Tarn Hows and Coniston (1.5 miles), where there are wonderful walking routes, running trails and steam yacht gondola cruises.

Nice big house. Only 6 of us stayed, and accommodated easily. Comfortable sitting room and plenty of dining space with good provisions in the kitchen - large amount of cutlery/crockery. So much to like about this large homely property. Its in a great position and is very well equipped. One of the double bed frames does need replacing but other than that I would strongly recommend for large family groups.

It was a superb house. Well equipped with all that was needed. There were 8 adults and 4 young children plus a toddler. All of us were very satisfied and there was plenty of room for us all. It was just what we were looking for.

We loved our stay at the cottage - it was big enough for 12 adults without a squash! The separate seating / lounge areas worked a treat. It was also incredibly well equipped. The amenities in Hawkshead were also fabulous for such a small village - coop/pubs/cheese and ice cream shop etc

A perfect location and a lovely house for our extended family holiday. It was ideal as we had 2 babies and a toddler with us. The kitchen was extremely well equipped. Great that we could all park. The only suggestion is that the showers need upgrading and the decor could do with refreshing in places.
