  • A stunning listed building dating back to the 13th century reputedly once owned by Robert the Bruce
  • Full of fascinating historical details, such as period fireplaces a stone spiral staircase and elegant and bright reception rooms to host that special party
  • Situated in 14 acres of landscaped grounds, including a woodland garden and croquet lawn with outdoor heated swimming pool

Property code: CA112

Having first belonged to Robert the Bruce, 14th-century King of Scotland, this splendid listed property is ideal for grand get-togethers and special occasions. It sleeps 24 guests across 13 bedrooms, and there’s ample entertaining space both inside and out. A billiards room and bar area is lovely for rainy days and cosy evenings, while in the 16-acre garden there’s a croquet lawn for sunny afternoons. The local village, Meigle, is only a mile from the house, with quaint shops and cafes.

The stately interiors of the house have been finely furnished. The entrance hall named after Robert the Bruce is a particularly memorable feature, with the original 13th-century circular stone staircase. It’s an impressive welcome back to the house when you have been out and about exploring Perthshire. Hang coats and stow boots away in the cloakroom, while the utility will take care of any clothes needing a refresh. Head into the kitchen to set about preparing dinner, aided by the Aga and other members of your group. Serve in the bright and beautiful dining room, where the others have hopefully laid the table. Whether you’re holding a wedding here or toasting to a birthday, a meal in the dining room is the perfect start to an evening together. Once the plates have been wiped clean, you could set up a game of billiards, or retire to a soft seat in either the drawing room or sitting room. On the way, stop off in the small reception hall and mix a drink at the bar area. Share stories, play games, and enjoy each other’s company as you unwind for the night. Like the rest of the house, the bedrooms are elegantly decorated, and when you’re ready for bed you’ll have no problem drifting into a peaceful and comfortable sleep. Admire morning views from the sitting room’s bay window, and if you’re after a quiet moment alone, take a cup of tea in the writing room. Get some fresh air and go for a stroll in the gardens when you need a little time outside.

What a beautiful house, we felt privileged to be able to stay in it. Warm and cosy and well equipped. We had to call out Douglas a couple of times due to minor issues and he was there almost before I put the phone down. Our stay at Drumkilbo House over Christmas was fantastic. The size of the house was perfect for our party of 24 people (young and old) and the choice of sitting areas meant that you could gather in a big group or relax in smaller groups.
