Exuding architectural grandeur, this Grade I listed stately home is set within 80 acres of attractive and peaceful North Yorkshire countryside. Just 14 miles from York and surrounded by historic parkland and formal lawns, Derwent Hall is a luxurious and secluded venue, perfect for exclusive weddings, corporate retreats and private hire for a group holiday with friends and family.
Built by Sir William Bamburgh in c.1610, whose coat of arms are above the entrance doorway, this Jacobean country house has been refurbished to an extraordinary standard. Approached through two hexagonal stone lodges with arched gateways and rounded battlements via a private driveway, you cannot fail to be impressed by the hall’s magnificent south façade which sets the scene for the indulgence to be found inside. Beautifully furnished formal rooms boast period features such as grand stone open fireplaces, polished wood flooring and elaborate cornicing, while the décor is tastefully muted to create stylish accommodation for modern living.
Sleeping 28, every guest can be assured of a VIP experience with opulent en-suite bathrooms for each of the 12 bedrooms. Spread across three floors, there are two family suites (one with an adjoining twin room) and most of the remaining bedrooms have the option of being double or twin bedrooms. A full complimentary breakfast is also included.
There is a variety of dining rooms and lounge areas to socialise and relax in including the Great Hall and adjoining Drawing Room which are both south facing, with large windows to maximise the fine countryside views. The Riverside Bar and Terrace which overlooks the River Derwent, are perfect for pre-dinner drinks and evening receptions, with plenty of casual seating and a smart dancefloor area. Enjoy the use of a full-size billiard table in the Billiard Room and for smaller parties of up to 20 guests, the Morning Room is an intimate space to mingle. The House Kitchen can also be available for use depending on the length and nature of your event.
Outside, the private grounds are dominated by elegant formal lawns which extend to over 10 acres, offering the perfect location for larger marquee events, drinks receptions or team building activities. Remains of the original ice house, boat house and folly can be admired and there is river frontage for approximately 0.5 miles to the Derwent including fishing rights and the opportunity to moor a boat.
Relax in the knowledge that a full butler service and a team of professional staff are available for the duration of your stay if requested. If you’re planning a special celebration, a dedicated Event Manager will also be provided. There is convenient access for helicopter landing, and the hall is approximately a 20-minute drive from the nearest private landing strip.
