Fabulous property comfortably accommodating large families and groups of friends and is a great base for exploring beautiful Argyll with views across the mountains, and maybe to enjoy boat trip.

This modern five-bedroom holiday home sits on a hillside just outside the village of Dalmally with superb far-reaching views of the mountains. With excellent transport links, this idyllic little haven is perfect for groups of friends looking for a countryside retreat for long overdue catch-ups.

We challenge anyone to arrive at this house without dropping their bags and stopping to take in those stunning views, breathing in the fresh mountain air. Though there are houses nearby, the property has a pleasingly private aspect as you come up the steep slope and gaze back over the treetops. Inside, the decor is modern, with a striking checkerboard kitchen that makes for a great entertaining space and a dining room connected by a stylish arch. Gather round the chunky pine island over a cuppa before dispersing to investigate the bedrooms. There are four double rooms and one twin split between up and downstairs, with one ground floor double boasting an en-suite. The main bathroom downstairs has a fantastic spa bath for lazy evenings in, as well as a separate shower, and there's a shower room upstairs too. A useful utility room is perfect for muddy wellies and damp coats, and the extra fridge/freezer is a great addition when catering for larger groups. There's room for everyone to settle down after a long day exploring – sink back on the comfy leather corner sofas in the large lounge for a glass or two of wine and a movie, with more of those mountain views as company.

  • 5 Bedrooms – 4 doubles and 1 twin
  • 1 Bathroom, 1 en-suite shower room and 1 shower room
  • Electric oven and hob, fridge and microwave
  • Utility room with fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer
  • Electric and central heating included
  • Ample off-road parking for 4 cars
  • Wi-Fi included
  • Regret no pets
  • Shops, pub and restaurant within walking distance
  • TV/DVD in lounge
  • BBQ and fire pit available

The house is just a few minutes from Dalmally station which has direct links to Glasgow, ideal for those arriving by train, and it's half a mile to the centre of the village where there's a small shop and Glenorchy Church with its unusual octagonal design. There are endless walks in the area, from gentle strolls along the rivers to hard-going hikes up the mountains. It's 2 miles to Kilchurn Castle, a beautiful ruin that sits at the head of impressive Loch Awe, which at 25 miles long is the longest lake in the UK. Hop on a boat, or hire some canoes and take a trip onto the glass-like loch, or explore some of the many lochside trails on foot or bike. Keen skiers can head to Glen Coe, 40 miles away, in the winter for a good choice of runs including the UK's steepest black run, and there's plenty to do for non-skiers too including a free sledging area, and of course plenty of tasty home-cooked food in the cafe with spectacular views. Jump on a train and take a scenic day trip to Oban, 20 miles away on the coast for spot of shopping or a boat trip around the pretty islands to see the friendly seals; you may even spot whales and porpoises if you're lucky.

The cottage was beautiful - clean, warm, tastefully decorated and very well equipped. We spent New Year here - we were greeted with Prosecco, balloons and chocolate which we thought was a lovely touch. We wouldn`t hesitate to come back!

Fantastic holiday cottage. Very clean, extremely well-equipped, really comfortable and in a very quiet location. The owner is very helpful and we had a wonderful welcome. There were 10 of us and we all loved this house. We would definitely have no hesitation to book it again...

Perfect location surrounded (easy driving) by Glencoe, Fortwilliam, Oban (Isle of Mull), and Loch Lomond. Wonderful house with very big kitchen, dual oven, powerful washing and drying machines (loved them!!) and very nice bedrooms with large jacuzzi bath. the Host was very sweet welcoming us with a VERY delicious victorian sponge cake (accidentallyRead more my mom's birthday which is even greater!!!) and even drove back to the house to give us cooking oil since we forgot to buy one and shops were all closed.
