Set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park near the hamlet of Horsehouse in beautiful Coverdale. Tucked away down a private track, it's the perfect place to escape and immerse yourself in some of the most stunning scenery in the UK. Walkers will be in heaven here, with so many routes available from the doorstep. There's an olde worlde pub close by to the house across a path and footbridge for that post-walk pint. And for something to eat a dining pub is also within walking distance.
Horsehouse is located on the road from Middleham village in Wensleydale to Kettlewell in Wharfedale. Middleham is one of Yorkshire's loveliest villages. Famous for its castle (once home to Richard III) it's also home to several race-horse trainers; you will see and hear the horses being lead through the village up to the gallops every day. And to top it off there is a lovely collection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops. We love it so much it features in our Top 10 Prettiest Yorkshire Villages.
There are charming tearooms if you fancy a treat at elevenses, and for dinner you can opt for pub grub at the Richard III traditional pub or perhaps some Italian food at the renowned White Swan. There's also a village store and a couple of bric-a-brac shops to mooch around. Just a few miles out of the village is the fantastic attraction The Forbidden Corner. Regularly voted the best family attraction in Yorkshire, it's also well worth a look even if there are no children in your party.
Just a little further on you'll find the charming market town of Leyburn. Leyburn is an archetypical slice of Dales market town life. You'll find traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around the handsome town square, which hosts a busy market every Friday. Leyburn is also home to the biggest auction centre outside of London if you fancy picking up a bargain. The nearby historic town of Richmond is similar in many ways, and has a lovely setting along the River Swale.
There are lots of other pretty villages and stunning natural sights all within close range of Arundel Grange. Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle are just a few miles away and the gorgeous villages of West Burton, Askrigg and Kettlewell are within easy driving distance, so lots of choice for things to do if you want to get out and about. Zarihnas Tea House in Kettlewell and Coverdale Community Pub offer lovely little pit-stops. And when you need to refuel with something more substantial stop at one of the areas many excellent gastro pubs. Our favourites include the Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton and the Blue Lion at East Witton, all within a short drive of the cottage.
