Situated on a farm in the heart of North Devon in the beautiful Taw Valley. It is within easy access to both Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks as well as all of North Devon’s attractions and beaches.

Sleeping eight guests across four spacious bedrooms, this luxurious farmhouse along the River Taw offers rural country charm with five-star creature comforts. It's ideal for large families with young children and pup pals in tow as there's a fully-enclosed garden to run about, countryside trails and riverside walks to explore, plus a scenic train line within walking distance where you can hop aboard and travel this spectacular region from the cathedral city of Exeter to the bustling market town of Barnstaple.

On arrival, kick off your boots in the hallway where there's ample storage for shoes, coats and brollies. Step inside to bright and airy country-style interiors, ready to relax on your holidays. The well-equipped kitchen and dining area is perfect for families with all essential appliances and cookery gadgets plus a handy utility room for laundry. Character features and deep tones in squishy sofas give a warm ambience to the lounge which has exposed timber beams and a cosy wood burner so toes will stay toasty on cooler evenings while you catch up on favourite family films or cartoon time with the Smart TV. When sleepyheads need slumber, meander upstairs where you'll find four en-suite bedrooms, two super king-size, one king, and one twin - the bed configuration can even be adapted on request. As energetic young guests arise, throw open the French doors in the dining room to the enclosed lawned garden bordered by a fence, colourful shrubs and pretty planters. Cook up a delicious brunch in the kitchen and enjoy al fresco-style on the BBQ patio where grown-ups can reboot and enjoy the views. There's a pub within walking distance, a shop for essentials nearby (2 miles), and allocated parking at the front of the property for four cars.

Meander along the River Taw and try a spot of fishing on a summer's afternoon. Visit family-friendly RHS Rosemoor (11.5 miles), which has seasonal workshops and fun educational activities for children during school holidays. Hire a bike and set off from Barnstaple (13 miles) on the Tarka Trail which has 30 miles of cycle and walking track including canopy-covered paths along the Torridge River, ideal on hotter days, and follows on towards the Instow estuary (20 miles). Take the train from Portsmouth Arms (0.2 miles) or Umberleigh (4.5 miles) along the scenic Tarka Line towards Exeter or Barnstaple. For a full day trip, head to Bideford (14 miles) and take a boat trip out to the magical Lundy Island, abundant with wildlife and nature including Sika deer, black rabbits and Soay sheep.

Fantastic property and ample space for our group of 4 adults and 3 children. The kitchen was brilliant and had more than enough crockery - we enjoyed eating together. It was great that each bedroom had its own en suite and the super king size beds were a luxury. I would highly recommend the property - we could not find fault with it at all. The beaRead moreutiful beaches were a 50 minute drive away (Putsborough & Saunton) and were fantastic but be prepared for this travel time if beaches are a priority. Hide

A beautiful home with beautiful surroundings. We went away for a family holiday with 3 generations, partners and our dog and this home was just perfect, so well thought out with attention to detail, loads of space and a lovely secure garden. The kids spent time surfing (a 30 minute drive) and we did lots of walking. Some great little pubs to eat ouRead moret (again a little drive), including the Chichester Arms and lovely cream tea at The Corn Dolly. Wonderful, helpful hosts - will definitely return! Hide
