Languedoc is certainly a region of breathtaking diversity. France’s most southern region is distinguished by the crest-moon shaped sweep of coast that borders the Mediterranean Sea and, in contrast, gives way to the dramatic Pyrenees at its southern-most tip, whilst also stretching up to the Cévennes mountain range in the north.
Dominating a large part of the northern body of this province, Cévennes National Park is vast, magnificent and largely untouched by tourists; quite the haven. An imposing landscape in one of the most sparsely populated areas of France, with dramatic rock faces carved out to create hardy riverside villages, it offers a wild beauty unlike any other part of the country.
Travel south and follow the curve of the coast to discover some of the finest beaches in France; with their distinctly Mediterranean looks and climes. Here you can enjoy all the beauty of Provence, with less commerciality and just as fine wines to rival. The picturesque Pyrenees and their gentle, yet awe-inspiring views, valleys and vales sit at the bottom of this varied district, neighbouring Spain.
